Optimus Primal was the captain of the exploration ship Axalon. When a group of Predacons stole the Golden Disk, Primal and his crew pursued them in the Axalon through a TransWarp portal to prehistoric Earth, where they took the shapes of the local creatures and began the conflict known as the Beast Wars.
