Fang was a member of the Lupaks, an extraterrestrial species within the Shi'ar Empire. The Lupaks have used cloning technology for generations, resulting in variations in appearance and sex within their population. For a long time, one Lupakite, always bearing the name Fang, has served as a member of the Shi'ar Royal Elite Imperial Guard, with basic biographical data transferred from one Fang to the next using brain-scan technology.

During a mission led by Deathbird, Fang and other Guardsmen encountered Captain Mar-Vell and fought together against the common enemy, the Brood. Fang later participated in the conflict when Emperor D'ken attempted to control the M'kraan Crystal, engaging in battles against the X-Men and the Starjammers. After D'ken's defeat, Fang transferred his loyalty to Deathbird, who had aligned herself with the Brood. However, when it was revealed that Deathbird and her allies were planning to destroy Earth, Fang was sent to kill the X-Men but was ultimately stopped by Lilandra, who dismissed the traitorous Guardsmen.

As a reward for his assistance, Deathbird handed Fang over to the Brood, who transformed him into a host. Wolverine eventually killed the Brood-infested Fang.
