Gears & Gadgets II Custom Contest
Technology is perhaps the most important measure of a society. It can create beings from lifeless hunks of metal and wires, allow us to travel the stars and give mankind the ability to hold it's own against beings of incredible power. Imagine Tony Stark without the Iron Man armor, Batman without his utility belt or Transformers without robotics...not a pretty picture. The goal of this contest is to create a custom based on technology. There are two ways you can go about this, gadgets or gears. Gadgets focuses on technologically enhanced weapons and gear, where as Gears focuses on robotics, cybernetics and machines. Please note that combination entries are perfectly acceptable.

-Gears: These entries must feature a piece of technology capable of it's own motion. Characters with cybernetic limbs are a good example of this; such as Winter Soldier, Misty Knight and Cyborg. Another area in this category are standard vehicles; such as the Batmobile, the Avengers Quinjet, and the Punisher Van. And of coarse full blown robots like Transformers, Sentinels and artificial intelligences like the Cylons or Ultron.

-Gadgets: Entries in the gadgets category must feature tech equipment, I hesitate to say high tech because low tech steam punk style gadgets are also acceptable. Think of things like wrist communicators, scanners, death rays, trick arrows, cloaking devices, plasma rifles, tracers, tasers, EMP's, grappling guns, re-breathers, night vision goggles, and the best gadget of them all, the Exo suit.

-Please note there is a fine line between weapons and gadgets. To qualify as a gadget ,for the purpose of this contest, a weapon must be technologically enhanced. For example: arrows are not gadgets, but trick arrows are. Armor is not a gadget, but Iron Man type armor is. A M16 is not a gadget, but a plasma rifle is. A grenade is not a gadget, but a cryo-grenade is.

-In keeping with the rules of the original Gears & Gadgets contest, no repaints will be allowed for this contest. Swap in some alternate parts, give them some new weapons, battle damage them, anything really. As long as entries are more than just a repaint. This rule is especially aimed at Transformers and Iron Man entries.

-Diorama displays are valid entries, but only for a gadgets type entry.

-As always there are no size restrictions for this contest. You may use any sort of materials, parts, tools or techniques that you wish. Whatever gets the job done..

Please remember to follow the Contest Rules and to Vote Fairly.

Quick question: The entry I posted didn't have the specific group, so I just put it in random. I requested the group, so is there any way I can switch it to the group (if they get accepted)?

Not quite sure what group you are referring to.

Green Skin, he's talking about the Toy Series categories. He picked the Random one, because what he wanted wasn't an option, so he requested it be added and wants to know if he can change the category his custom belongs to when, and if, the new grouping is added to the list of existing ones.

Petergriff6, you can always edit your customs by selecting the little wrench icon in the top right-hand corner next to your custom's number code (your changes will have to be re-evaluated by a moderator first, so don't expect instantaneous results). I've edited my contest entries in the past, when something needed to be corrected/fixed, as have others, so it shouldn't be a problem.

You mention Cylons - what about skin jobs? Arguably tech, but they don't feel like they really fit with the theme of the contest...

Yeah they don't really fit. I'd say they are not allowed on the basis that they are made from organics, and this contest is more about the nuts and bolts side of technology.

Green skin, can it be a gear or gadget that you made up? ( well at least your own version of it?)

As long as it fits within the rules you can make up original entries, yes.

Looking at the wording of the "Gadgets" category, I'm wondering if someone were to make full-size trick arrows or wrist communicators or whatever, would that count? Or is it more for figure accessories?

More for figure accessories.

Fair enough. That's what I thought. Soon there will come a contest that my batrilla/gorbat will dominate.

What if it's a biological enhancement ? Is that allowed? Like putting huge bat wings on a gorilla? But said gorilla did it to himself(thru science!) to get an edge on a certain red suited speedster.

Sorry, no biological enhancements. That would be a different contest all together.
