Angels and Demons Custom Contest
Long before we had heroes and villains we had angels and demons. They are eternally in conflict with each other, yet oddly similar in nature. For this contest we focus on these agents from the afterlife realms. The goal is simply to create a custom of an angel or a demon. You can create one of the many angels/ demons from comics, video games, movies, literature, myth, etc. You can also create an angelic or demonic version of an existing character. Or you can create an original character.

A list of fictional angels can be found here.
A list of demons from fiction can be found here.

-Characters that are angel/demon in name only are not valid for this contest. No Daredevils, Azraels, or Angels allowed.

-No dioramas will be allowed for this contest.

-As always there are no size restrictions for this contest. You may use any sort of materials, parts, tools or techniques that you wish. Whatever gets the job done..

Please remember to follow the Contest Rules and to Vote Fairly.

This may be a dumb question, but are Greek mythology characters allowed like Zeus or Hades?

As I understand it, there aren't any angels in Greco-Roman mythology, but there are demons, just not in the Christian/Islamic/Judaic sense. Greeks believed that the air was filled with invisible demons that served as muses and/or the intermediaries between mankind and the gods/goddesses, but these supernatural creatures were generally good or neutral in nature, not evil.

In fact, the words "daimon/daemon" and "angelos" (messenger), from which demon and angel are derived, are both Greek in origin. Amusingly, daimon/daemon originally had good connotations, not evil.

There are winged characters that look angelic, most notably Aphrodite/Venus' son, Eros/Cupid, and the inventor Daedalus and his son Icarus, in Greco-Roman mythology, but they aren't angels as the term is commonly understood today. The messenger god Hermes/Mercury would probably be the closest approximation to a Christian/Islamic/Judaic angel, in terms of function. Zeus/Jupiter and Hades/Pluto are gods, of the sky and underworld respectively, but I would not characterize them as angels or demons either.

Quite correct. Zues and Hades belong in a different contest.

If memory serves, somebody suggested a comic book deities contest one time, as well as a more general gods/goddesses one. Either one would work, but I'd favor the latter, simply because participants would have more character options than the comic-centric one.

Your memory serves well. I'm doing the write up for the more generalized one now.

I got a few ideas what I would like to try but what about half demon/half human characters like Dante from devil may cry

or (this is prob a no but....) someone like sam winchester from supernatural when either he has the demon blood in him or when being used as a vessel by lucifer

How about characters in the Bible that may not be Angels but certainly have the resume? I.E. Davids Mighty Men...

Keep in mind it's a contest about angels & demons, not a contest about the bible. That being said you still have to option to do an angelic version of any character.

Just wondering if Street Fighter Gill qualify? I mean he god-like and when he does his special move "Seraphic Wings" he turns into a 6 wings angel & also has the power of ressurection.

Sorry, Gill does not qualify. As far as I can tell he's just a normal guy that's been genetically enchanced and has no connection to actual angels.

I think the Four horsemen should be valid right? Since the white rider is Jesus, which make them angel.....

After researching this for a while I've determined there is no clear answer. Some people think that Jesus is the white rider, but some people disagree. It's really up to your interpretation on whether or not the Horsemen are angels, demons, or something else entirely. If you'd like to do them for an entry in this contest, I would be fine with that.

Should be fair, truthfully biblically-speaking, there really isn't a "list" so to speak to identify an Angel. Their presence alone like in the Old Testament would be enough for people to realize who they were, which leaves this contest in an open playing field. 4 Horsemen are coming from the skies and are sent from the Lord, I would say based on just that they could be considered Angels.

Question: Could the Naphtali, which were half human half angels, allowed to be made? They were birthed from the fallen angels that came with Satan and grew to be "Giants".

I've never heard of the Naphtali, I thought the angel/human hybrids were called Nephilim. Either way half bloods are fair game.

Whoops you're right Green Skin, it's Nephilim, Naphtali was a tribe. Thanks.

The rider on the white horse is not Jesus, but many are deceived into believing that. He is not the Christ, but the Anti-Christ.

Revelations really isn't specific enough to definitively say one way or the other. Depending on the translation, the white rider could be "Conquest" or "Victory", with victory obviously having a more positive meaning. Whether he's Jesus, the Anti-Christ, the Holy Spirit, or something else entirely, is largely subjective.
