From Clive Barker's Lord of Illusions is Miller, a skinhead adrenaline junkie with carved, sharpened teeth who aids Butterfield in his quest to discover where magician Nix is buried so that he can resurrect him. Miller is a blunt force instrument who fights like an animal and who can get up and walk away after falling two stories onto the pavement. He has several fights with detective Harry D'Amour, and is ultimately killed by Harry, being impaled by a large device used in Swann's illusions. To make Miller, I used the upper torso of a Superboy figure. For the waste and legs, I used a female wresting figure from WWE Elite. The WWE figures are a larger scale, but since the females are smaller than the males in that line, the female body matches the six inch scale. I had to build up the waste to match the Superboy torso, since the female waste was a bit too short. I also had to build up the groin to better pass as a male body, as well as thickening the feet of the boots. I filled in the gap where the figure was posable at the mid torso, then sculpted the tank top and abs. I used the collar and zippers of a Xmen Wolverine figure for Miller's jacket outline, filling in the rest of the jacket with epoxy. I then covered the epoxy in sculpy and sanded it all smooth, which was very tedious. The hands are a Wesley figure from the Buffy line. Initially, I was going to use the head of The Master for Miller, but when I actually painted it, I discovered that the head I had chosen did not look good at all. I looked through my fodder and found a Spike head in vampire mode which suited Miller a lot more. I carved off all of the hair and applied Sculpy to create the bald head. I sculpted the knife like symbol branded on his brow, and I sculpted lips since the Spike head was weirdly devoid of them. The head took a lot of work. Painting was relatively easy with the exception of the boot laces, which took me multiple tries to get right. The many badges on his jacket were hand drawn by me and colored with finely sharpened Prismacolor colored pencils. I sprayed them with sealant so they would not smear, applied double sided tape to the back, carefully cut them out with scissors, and stuck them to the figure. Miller took a really long time to make. I have included a screenshot of the movie for comparison. Please check out my other Lord of Illusions custom action figures. Please wait... |
