This one took me longer than any project I've ever worked on partly due to the current state of the world but mostly just because of the sheer amount of work/trial & error that went into it. I knew from the beginning this one would be one of my most elaborate customs to date and I wasn't wrong. First I had to break the wrists and the right leg at the knee so I can glue them back in the position I wanted before sculpting all the joints closed and making a new kneecap for him. Once he was no longer a figure and a solid statue, I began the long process of sculpting all the details of the suit from the game. Every seamline in dark red, the white sections on the arms, chest, and feet, and the eyes are all sculpted on there. Once all the sculpt work was done it was time for painting which was done mostly with sprays (the red and blue) and the white and black sections were done by hand including the webbing which I did with a paint marker. As for the base, originally I didn't know what I wanted to do with it. Early drafts had it just being some generic rubble that I've done a million times by now. I wanted to try something new. Seeing as Doc Oc was the main villain, I decided to try and incorporate him into it somehow but I couldnt figure out how for a while. It wasn't until I took a trip to my hobby store and went to the wood isle to pick up the round wooden base that I saw these wooden snakes and I thought they would be perfect as Doc Oc's tentacles with some modification. All I had to do was cut the head and tail off of 2 wooden snakes then sculpt the claw part of it myself. I tried the claw like 3 times before I finally got a result I was happy with. Then all I had to do was use my Dremel to chip away and make them look all beat up and add the spikes that his tentacles have in that game made of painted plastic sheets. Once those were done I painted the base red and blue. The nameplate was a last second addition that was a little more complex than expected but I think it really adds to the professionalism atleast a bit. I used a vinyl stencil and spray painted his name on there then used sculpting clay to attach it to the base since the super glue I tried wasn't holding well. Overall this guy had a lot of ups and downs in the process and I almost gave up on him once or twice but I'm so happy I finished it and I pleased with what I've created here. Please wait... |
