I didn't get into Star Wars Expanded Universe when it was around. I remember reading a book or two, and picking up Shadows of the Empire from Dark Horse when it came out, but none of it really grabbed me back then. I never even got into any of the video games. So Star Wars went a little ignored by me through the 90's. The Prequels didn't help much. Even The Clone Wars cartoon didn't originally hook me. Then the Black Series came out and six inch Star Wars figures were something I couldn't resist. Eventually I caught the end of Season 2 of Rebels with Vader and that got me hooked into watching season 1 which when that was done didn't satiate me so I found myself watching all The Clone Wars seasons so I sort of got into the cartoons in reverse. But then something happened, The Sequel Trilogy ended, The Clone Wars ended, season 1 of The Mandalorian ended and suddenly there was nothing new to dive into. Which led me into a deep dive into the EU, the past, the present, the future. And now I see why people wanted a Revan figure or a Jaina Solo figure when I didn't really care much at the time. Now I can see why people lament it being removed from canon by Disney the same way I lamented the loss of the JSA post-Flashpoint--though post-Flashpoint DC made it easy for me to break the cycle of buying comics. So enter Mara Jade Skywalker. Now, I already knew who Mara Jade was. It's kind of hard not to, I think. Every hero needs a fiery redhead at his side. Pete and MJ...Scott and Jean...Korben Dallas and Leeloo...Lois and Clark (well, according to Zack Snyder, at least). I've seen plenty of cool Mara Jades on site, but most seem to use an Marvel Legends figure for a base, and well, they're a little bit tall for Star Wars figures. Now, I know Mark Hammill isn't Shaquille O-Neal, but Mara Jade isn't Lisa Leslie, either. The problem is, that ML Domino torso is almost a perfect starting point. It turns out that a lot of Star Wars Black Series and Marvel Legends parts are pretty compatible. The torsos and arms are actually the same length. MLs are just all clones of Stacy Keibler designed by ZZ Top, apparently. So after a lot of mixing and matching, measuring and modifying, this was what I finished with as far as parts go: Hair: Marvel Legends Retro Black Widow Head: Marvel Legends Deadly Origin Black Widow (it's a little smaller than the Retro BW head, so it looked better on a shorter figure) Torso and harness: Marvel Legends Domino with sculpted bust--the piping was just too perfect not to use Arms: Marvel Legends RetroDazzler Hands and glove cuffs: Marvel Legends Domino hands and Punk Storm glove cuffs Glasses: Black Series Val (from scarf, they are a separate piece but were a pain in the arse to free) Upper legs and belt: Black Series Jaina Solo Lower legs: Black Series Padme with sculpted shin guards Knee Armor: ML Domino, removed and dremmeled down to fit knee cap. Hopefully everyone likes the results as much as I do. Thanks for looking! MTFBWY ![]() |
