This is a fun one, in that there's a backstory. The Star Wars Identities exhibition is making its final stop in Singapore, where I'm from, and I got to attend a preview of the exhibition. It was supposed to open last April, but was delayed because of the pandemic. It was kinda surreal walking around a museum where things felt pretty much normal, even with the masks and the safe distancing. The main difference is it just won't be as crowded as it'd normally be. The premise of the exhibition is that there are ten interactive stations where visitors scan an RFID wristband, and make choices and answer questions. You get to choose the species, gender and name of your character, what planet they grew up on, what their occupation is, and define their values and character traits. At the end of the exhibition after ten interactive stations, you get to meet your character. I chose the one creative profession available, which was musician. Here is the backstory of D'dej, generated via the choices I made (the first half of her backstory makes sense, then by the second half, it does not): "D'DEJ FEMALE TWI'LEK I was raised on the city planet Coruscant, where members of my community made their living engineering and building skyscrapers . On holidays my best friend and I would traditionally take in a show at the Galaxies Opera House. My parents required discipline from me but gave me support when I needed it, and I inherited my strong set of creative abilities from them. Later on I spent some time with the great Rebel leader Leia Organa, whose guidance left me with knowledge I still use every day in my job as a musician. I remember this one time when I took down an enemy command station in a single shot. I found it very hard to deal with this; actually, after it happened I retreated from the pressure of fame and the spotlight and lived out my days as a hermit. People often tell me I’m a generally relaxed and imperturbable person, I also tend to be organised and prepared. But the most important thing to me is self-direction: I believe that living in a free world means we all have the right to choose. I am moderately sensitive to the Force; I guess that's why the Emperor took an interest in me. When he offered me limitless power in exchange for my allegiance, I fought the urge to join him and his evil minions and rejected his offer." Pretty cool! I decided I wanted to immortalise D'dej as a custom. She's mostly a retro Black Widow, shortened at the legs. Head and hands from Hera Syndulla, with the head sanded down and heavily modified. All the costume details and her headdress are sculpted. Now the kloo horn was interesting and I knew it would be a challenge. I found a hoe (the gardening implement) accessory that came with a World War Z Gerry Lane figure, and that already had the right texture. I sculpted onto it and used wire and twisty ties to modify that. Thanks for looking! ![]() |
