This is more of a “fix” than it is a custom figure.
A friend of mine recently gave me a box of these action figures, that I knew very little about. When I read reviews of the toy-line on-line most reviews were positive, EXCEPT the consistent complaint that Dick Tracy himself is not depicted in his trademark trench coat. There ARE some aftermarket soft-goods coats out there, but in my opinion, cloth does not scale down well, they look oversized and frumpy, and do not look consistent with the rest of the toy-line. Once I had the figures in-hand it immediately occurred to me that I could use The Punisher’s coat to stand in for Dick’s famous regalia.
I primed and painted Dick’s arms, wrist-cuffs, and the section between the edge of his vest, and his shoulder-joint with Tamiya “desert-yellow” paint. Once the paint dried, I carefully coated the arms with a thin coat of cyanoacrylate(to prevent paint-rub when moving the arms).
Then I primed and painted the interior of the coat and the “popped-collar”portion of the collar. Once dry, I put the coat on the figure, and painted the exterior.
As soon as you pop this coat onto this figure, it is difficult to believe that it wasn’t manufactured SPECIFICALLY for this figure. It fit like it was tailor-made. If you’re a dedicated fan of these Dick Tracy figures, I recommend this fix. You will be SO pleased with the results. I also HIGHLY recommend the “desert-yellow” repaint. Let’s be honest; Dick Tracy was never intended to be dressed in yellow! It was just a product of the limitations of early printed-media.
