Thor, as you can tell, was started with the Marvel Select Ultimate Thor figure. I thought the face was horrible as it looked like he was trying to pass some huge Asgardian demon through his bowels, so I sculpted on a new closed mouth and beard.

Then came the painting, painting and more painting:

The clothes were base coated black, with the pants getting a dry brushing of Midnight Blue (Games Workshop) and True Blue (Tamiya). The boots were drybrushed with Neutral Gray (Tamiya) detailed with some Skin Dark Tint (Testors) for a dirty look on the soles and bottom. I wasn’t going to touch the chest piece and just leave it flat black, however once I tried the blue on it, I was much happier. It was basically the same formula as the pants except I added another coat of Light True Blue (Reeves) for highlights and to differentiate between the pants and shirt. The belt was a combo of Titan Silver (Tamiya) dry brushed over Gunmetal Silver (Tamiya) over the black.

This was my first time trying to paint human flesh, so it was basically trial and error from the get go. I used Testors Dark Tint as a base, then tried Flat Flesh from Tamiya, it looked so orangy/yellow that Thor looked like he just got done with a fake and bake tan, so I scrapped that color and went with a Light Tint/Medium Tint combo from Testors… much better. The hair was basically Burnt Umber, Yellow Ochre, Cad Yellow (Reeves).

As for the hammer, the figure I received had a bent/limp handle so I gave it some Asgardian Viagra in the form of a paint brush end, supper glued it in and painted on. The hammer head was basecoated black and then painted the same way as the belt. The gold part was then given two coats of clear yellow to make it look gold. A wash of black to bring out the details and two different browns for the handle and it was done.

Altogether I am really happy with the way this custom came out. I know it doesn’t look too much different than the original, but I think it looks a lot better than it did.
