Given my weakness for all things steampunk, I decided to toss 'Prime into a future that never was: the Steam age. Inspired by the 'Elseworlds'/'What-if' style Transformers comic "Hearts of Steel", I melded the ancient looking, yet spaceship looking Vector Prime into something that might have fought Nazi robots in William Gibson/Bruce Sterlings "Difference Engine" universe a few decades later. -I kitbashed a WWII era plane for it's wings, intakes, propeller tips and gun turret. -Painted a TF Vector Prime a base cloat of black by hand, then various layers of brown, brass, golds, gun metal and silver. -Began with numerous washes of sepia and the wonderful (but discontinued) Citadel "Flesh Wash". It makes a perfect rust-effect when painted over silver metallic colours. -The entire piece was then sealed with Citadel spray sealant, and specific areas with both Matte and Glossy Vallejo varnish. During a localart show (along side Lar DeSouza, the webcomic artist), I placed this figure in my custom figure showcase with some other works I've done - Clockwork Prime was a bit hit! :) I hope people here at FigureRealm like him too. Steampunk + Excessive paint washes = a Childhood robot icon remixed. ^_^ ![]() |
