I wrote this cheesy backstory:

Who is Lionessa, Cougara, and Leoparda? Are they nothing more than an infusion of estrogen into a male-heavy team? No, let me tell you her back story....

Lionessa is the twin sister of Lion-O who barely escaped the destruction of Thundera. Lion-O and the Thundercats assumed that the three women perished in the explosion, therefore never searched for them. Cougara was a member of the Royal Guard who has studied the fighting techniques of the famed Panthro, whom she has always revered. Dr. Leoparda was assigned to Lionessa to serve as her governess.

Mumm-Ra discovers her existence, and comes to her disguised as the spirit of her father Claudus. He tells Lionessa that an evil man is posing as her deceased brother Lion-O and possesses the true Sword of Omens and using it for ill purposes. Lionessa, armed with the Sword Mane left for her by her now-deceased mother, travels with Cougara and Leoparda to the newly restored Thundera to battle who she thinks is an imposter of her twin brother.

After a brief battle wracked with misunderstanding, Lionessa realizes that the person she is fighting is indeed her brother, and he offers all three women a place as a Thundercat. Cougara finally meets her inspiriation Panthro, and never would have guessed that she would also become his lover. Leoparda is also reunited with her old flame Lynx-O, and the two rekindle their old relationship.
