I decided to create my own long coat, ML articulated David Boreanaz. because I was disapointed with the lack of an articulated, trenchcoat wearing ANGEL from the Buffy/Angel TV * comic series. Recipe: -BTVS Deluxe Angel / black pants v. - (Legs, torso) -X2 Cyclops movie figure - (arms, coat) -Doctor Who Plastic Mannequin monster figure - (shirt collar front) -LOTR Aragorn figure (hands) -Diamond ANGEL figure / from an older series - (head/massively re-sculpted + sword) -Vallejo Acrylic Paints & Matte Varnish -Citadel Washes (Sepia) -Gel type Superglue + Krazy Glue -My new super-fine Testor brush for painting eyeballs -I removed the head of the original figure, as I didn't think it resembled the actor. - Dremmeled out the chest of the base figure, and re-sculpted/transplanted the collar on using Aves and Superglue. Added bulk to the figure's back and chest using Aves so the coat fit well. -Dremmeld out the arm sockets and Aves/baby powder-planted the new X2 Cyclops arms inside. The hands were planted in the arms the same way. Re-sculpted the neck and created a new DCUC-style neck joint for the figure from plastic, superglue and Aves sculpt. Sanded all the surfaces and crevices to prevent paint rub later on. For the head, I re-sculpted the hair and brow using Aves and some promo shots from early seasons of ANGEL as reference. I wanted to emulate his hair during the spikey-but-ungelled phase of his TV career. David Boreanaz slicked back mullet in later seasons looked very uncool. ;) I painted the whole figure using Vallejo acrylic paints, and custom mixed a nice topaz-green color for his dress shirt. I did three skin-tone layers of custom mixing until I was happy with a fair skin tone that wasn't too tanned. Afterward, I hit some areas (near the nose, brow, hairline, etc.) with a Citadel sepia wash. It turned out great against the fair skin, as it emulate the natural shadows that would be cast if he was life-size. :) The neck/torso was sealed with liquid Krazy glue-type superglue to prevent paint rub. The long coat was attached (the jacket's back-hole was filled with Citadel flexible green-stuff, sanded and painted. I superglued the shoulders and back to the figure, as I didn't want the coat to be removable, but kept it positionable on the figure. The head was attached the same way the shoulders and hands were using the Aves sculpt / babypower trick (the power prevents the male-plug side from bonding to the Aves when it solidifys) The whole figure was sealed with Vallejo Matte finish varnish. The figure base is a combination of a Diamond BTVS Cordelia base (the hollywood fragment ground) with an added Wolfram & Hard law office sign from a Diamond Angel figure. I dremmeld it down and afixed it with superglue to the base. The whole thing was repainted (minus the hollywood star). I was inspired by the destruction of the Wolfram & Hart building in the ANGEL followup-series made by Darkhorse comics. Hope my version of ANGEL. I had him on display with a head-swapped BTVS Spike for a while and the pair looked great. Cheers, -Blayne ![]() |
