Okay, here goes. I was back re-reading my entire run of Superboy and the Ravers and came across issue 9, in which Superboy and the team are on a road trip traveling around to the various cities of the DC Universe. On a brief stop at Warrior's Bar and Grill in New York City, Superboy picks up a souvenir Superman costume from the gift shop and upon their arrival in Metropolis, he proceeds to have one adventure in the classic costume.
I always wanted a custom of Connor in this costume, so, using an extra COIE series 3 Earth-Prime Superboy body and a left over ROS series Superboy head, I set about creating it.
The figure is a pretty straightforward head swap, with a few minor changes. First, I used milliput to build up the neck to accommodate the new head (the existing neck had a groove cut into it for the original head). Once the milliput was dry, I sanded it smooth and then mixed a special blend of skin tone to perfectly match the head, and then repainted the neck and hands. Next, using my Dremel, I removed the double ball joint peg that was in the Superboy head (not an easy task I will tell you). Once the peg was removed, I popped the new head onto the existing neck peg. Afterwards, I slapped on new chest and cape symbols with a little glue (both symbols were made by hand at a larger size, and then photocopied and shrunk to proper size). Ta-Da!
