I finally got a chance to make another custom for the "me" collection this time it is the Shinobi Hotsuma. I based him of of the game Shinobi released by SEGA a few years back. I was always a fam of the old school Shinobi games and this one recaptured the frustrating, yet rewarding gameplay. One of the unique gameplay features of this game was that your sword was always hungry for souls and if you didn't keep feeding by continuously killing the sword would feed on you! The sword itself was given a name Akujiki, and I too recreated it for the figure and did not just give him any sword.

Hotsuma started as a Spider Man figure that I picked up at a garage sale, I'm not sure what one he is or what set he was from. The head is from a Moon Knight with hands from a Baron Zemo. The chest legs and head armor are made of sculpt. The hand and upper thigh guards are made of foam thus ensuring full movement without brakage. The sheath is a coffee stir straw.
The hardest part of the custom was his arm shurikin. I took Wolverines blades and cut each into tiny ones then drilled a hole thru each. I then fed a single chainlink thru thru each one and then attached it to a second. I set these aside and piece sculpted his armguards. As the final layer of sculpt was applied I inserted the chained shurikin in a row. Each of the these are 100% moveable and flow quite nicely with the figure, just like in the game!

I used cloth for the mouth cover and scarf and accordingly tatered it. The scarf can actually be made longer by extentions I made for it, since in the game the cloth can extend way beyond normal reach. After giving him a fresh coat of paint I then got to work on Akujiki.

Akujiki is a Ninja Wolverines sword with a dollar store ninja handle. I then trimmed the large circular part of the sword down. The sword was then painted half black and half silver. I then needed to add the cursed inscription on the sword with a fine paint brush and red paint. The handle was painted black then dry brushed red with the hand guard painted gold.

Over all I think he came out pretty BA, what do you guys think?

Thanks for the additional comments guys. I never thought Hotsuma would go over so well with you guys.
To answer the question about where to get the foam I usually pick it up at Wal Mart for 33c a sheet. I beleive that Jo anne Fabrics and Micheals craft stores also carry it though I don't know how much theres is.

I gotta say that this is a great choice for a custom. I really appreciate the attention to detail (the arm shurikens ROCK!). You did a very clever job of integrating and altering parts to complete Hotsu here. I'm gonna have to locate some of this 'foam' stuff everybody has been using. It seems to work out very nicely. Great sculpting job on the head! Overall, a very nice custom and very well done!

I was thinking shin - if you managed to put some thin but strong armature wire along the edges of the scarf
technically you should be able to free- pose it any which way

Thanks Cap! I'm just glad the arms came out as good as they did. It had to have taken 3hrs to get them right (I had season 5 of Angel running and I got thru 3 episodes before I was done). Oh the original Shinobi was one of the first Ninja games I played (I think it started this Ninja obsession). I don't think I ever beat it but I remember pumping quarter after quarter into that rotten machine. Out of all of them Shinobi 3 and the 2 PS2 ones would have to be my fave.

Yes, this is an awesome piece. I really like it. You did some some excellent detailed work on the sword and accessories. The shurikin hanging from the arms really adds to it. I don't think I've ever seen anyone attempt that before.
Shinobi was also a fun game too. I know there is all kinds of versions of the game now, but did you actually play the original arcade game?

Thanks for the comments everyone. I had no idea he would go over so well wit you guys. As you can tell I out the extra mile into him. I'll have some more Pics up tonight of his back and a pic of him slicing a guy in two and if I can a wall cling pic.
I tried that initially but the length of the scarf and the amount of wire I used weighed down the figure and made him stand awkward.
Thanks for your comment on him and your suggestion, I'll keep trying out different things on it.

Nice custom! Nice attention to detail! A cool thing you could do with the scarf also is find some decent guage copper wire and somehow glue or incorporate it into the scarf so you can also bend the scarf around and give some nice flowy effects.
