I picked up this "Deluxe" Pirates Of The Caribbean Sao Feng in a sale and noticed that with a few minor alterations he would make a pretty good looking base for a Shang Chi custom. GI Joe Quick Kick provided the perfect head to complete this look. Unfortunately, any Shang Chi figure should have a gazillion points of articulation in keeping with the nature of the character, and sadly this figure suffers from rigor mortis big time. That's why I have to scratch my head at the packaging for Sao Feng advertising a "deluxe" figure. This figure might have been deluxe in 1977 with its whopping 8 points of articulation. It still looks good, and I'm an old school guy so the lack of articulation doesn't bother me all that much, but still, it just doesn't seem right. I was going to use this Shang Chi custom as an excuse to profess my love for Kung Fu and all martial arts, and tell you about an Aikido class I used to take that was full of fat middle aged white people (*raises hand*), and how I used to sit in class and daydream about a coven of ninjas dojo storming the place and the hilarity that would ensue, but instead I will profess my undying love and admiration for the Shang Chi: Master Of Kung Fu comic book of the late 70s/early 80s and especially the artwork of Gene Day...Man, that guy could really push a pencil!! P.S. In case you're wondering, the Action Man Robot X (Red) figure that Shang Chi is fighting is an older custom of mine cobbled together using Base - Egon Spengler from Ghostbusters Head - from Big John Studd thumb wrestler Arms - from robot TMNT Hands - from McFarlane Hanson Bro. Chest - Motu Leech Thanks for viewing and good luck!! ![]() |
