Claremont's run in Uncanny was a big part of my childhood. The Dark Phoenix saga is the pinnacle storytelling of that run, so the choice was obvious since I had picked up a Mystique for something else. Sculpted the hair, chest and leg muscle definition using FIXIT, sash from fodder and a little bit of FIXIT and the left fist is grafted from a DCUC Power Girl using still more FIXIT. Painted with basecoats of Citadel black and then red; gold accents are Decoart metallics series drybrushed afterward with the exception of the Phoenix crest which was in Sharpie Paint Metallic. Mixed the color darker for the hair and also drybrushed the face with bleached bone over a coat of fleshtone to try for the Famke Janssen X3 look. But what Phoenix is complete without the Force? I "sculpted" the bird onto a fight stand base using jeweler's wire and clear plastic ties after reading Jin's fantastic hot glue guide. Finally, painted with the same red, a cadmium yellow wash, then drybrush accents of a lighter yellow and some skull white to top it off.
Ditto on yours, Great minds think alike It always amazes me how two different artists can come up with completely distinct works on the same subject, even having a similar appreciation coming into their topics!
I agree, we both made excellent customs and our styles truly made 2 great versions of the character. I knew you were a great mind, glad I might be one also. can't wait for your future projects.
