As a huge fan of the ORIGINAL Star Wars Trilogy, and not so much of the prequels, I am always on the lookout for worthwhile Star Wars related entertainment. Back in 1995 a game called "Dark Forces" caught my eye, mostly because it took everything that was cool about Doom and injected it with a healthy dose of Star Wars lore. But it wasn't until '97 when Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight was released that my interest was really piqued. Enter the reluctant hero named Kyle Katarn. A character with more back-story than most Star Wars expanded universe occupants, Kyle was a graduate of the Imperial Academy and almost became a lackey of the Empire. Luckily, fate intervened and Kyle, instead, became a Jedi! I decided to play some Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (the third part in the videogame series) the other day, and remembered this custom I had made years ago based on Kyle's appearance in this particular game. Still one of my favorite games of all time, any fan of Star Wars or Fist Person Shooters in general should definitely check it out. So without further ado, Kyle Katarn finally gets his due. Kyle is made from a DID 1:6 scale custom body. His clothes are a mixture of Qui-Gon Jinn's Sideshow outfit and other misc. pieces. He has a slightly modified Qui-Gon Lightsaber. I painted the beard on his face using Tamiya Acrylics. His shoulder armor is custom sculpted using Super Sculpey III. Truly an awesome character, Kyle has seen the Dark Side as well as the Light. If you are interested in more information on Kyle, there is a wonderful trilogy of books based on his experiences in addition to the Videogames. He will always be my favorite Jedi, if not favorite Star Wars character... I hope you enjoy! ![]() |
