Finished this custom a while back. I have been debating whether to post this or not. I am not really happy with it. I have always loved the Beetle character ever since he appeared in the Spider-man and his Amazing friends cartoon waaaaay back in the 80's. Something about his voice and his armor that intrigued me as a young boy. I really don't know why he's only been made once in action figure form and only for the old line of Spidey toys. I hope he will eventually get made for the ML line, if he ever does this guy is getting scrapped for parts. I wanted a Beetle custom that really looked like he was wearing armor. I know in the comics his armor looks more like a cloth costume than armor. So I wanted to drive home the fact that he is wearing a technologically enhanced body armor that protected him but at the same time was a high tech weapon. The SMC Scorpion was the perfect base. It looks like flexible armor that the Beetle would actually use. I got the idea from joemx. He made a really cool Beetle with this base. So the credit goes to him. The gauntlets came from DCSH Azreal. I think they fit the Beetle perfectly because they looked high tech yet only have four fingers on each hand reiterating the fact that the armor was made inspired by the insect. I also liked the energy blades. I would like to think that the Beetle is constantly upgrading his armor keeping up with the latest technology. Now he can use his beetle stings as long range shooters or fashion the beam into a blade for close combat. I didn't like the head of the old Beetle figure so I decided to sculpt my own. I think this is where I went wrong. I thought the mask was pretty simple so even with my limited sculpting skills I could make it. I was wrong. I spent so much time sculpting and re sculpting his head and still think it is off. I finally gave up and deemed this was the best I could do. I think I might retry and sculpt a new head for him in the future when my sculpting skills have gotten better. I will post WIP's pics in the Custom Workstation forum so if you need a good laugh, check out my sculpting debacle there. LOL. As always I want to thank everyone for taking time to check out my customs and leaving the cool comments. This is a really great site full of very talented and good people. God Bless!!! Suprasizeme...Realmers like you are what makes this site and this hobby so enjoyable.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, brother!
I just had to say that I love the metallic green paint job. It gives the Beetle an iridescent look that reminds me of an actual beetle's iridescent exoskeleton.
Awesome work, brother.
By the way, if Hasbro ever releases a ML Beetle, please don't scrap this 'work of art' for parts...I wouldn't mind taking good care of him.
PM your address.
Dude, I will treasure this beautiful custom as the true work of art that it is in my collection.
I am humbled by your coolness!!! I'll be sure to PM you my info as soon as the Realm's Forum servers are back up.
Thank you SO much...I just can't thank you enough.
The best news one can hear after coming home from a stressful day at work. You've made my week!
Awesome custom of The Beetle!!!
Love the mask!
Love the paint job!
I totally agree with you on the wing tips. I have never used styrene strips before but I am definitely going to look into it. That was a great idea. I know there is much for me to learn and it's always great for guys like me to get tips from pros like you. Thanks again!!!
