This is the first really large diorama that I have made. It measures 6'w x 3'D x 18"H. I started with 2) 3x3 metal shelves fr the base and then built an 18"h back drop on the sides and back. I made a wooden frame and using corrugated paper (much like skinned cardboard) for the texture of the walls. I used stills from the movie that i digitally removed all the live action actors so that it would all look the same scale as my figures. By utilizing these images it give the illusion of depth and kept this rather large diorama from being any bigger that it had to be.

The recipe: I painted the floor and backdrop frame with Osha Blue spray paint. Once that dried I dusted them with white spray paint. While this paint was still wet i sprinkled laundry detergent to give it a look of clumpy snow. I them glued my custom photos to the back drops.

The next part I used an old beat up 1977 Millennium Falcon that was in very rough shape. I gutted the insides of any parts that could have value and then gave it a raddle can custom paint job using machinery gray and then dusted it with flat black. I then drilled holes for the light placement and used some old Christmas lights to do the job. the final touch was some custom decals.

I glued all the figures and ships in place and then added a few accessories that gave it the look it needed. The computer in the back of picture 3 was custom made based off a lot of reference photos and still shots from the dvd. Ive not really seen any one use the technique that I use for printed materials such as this but rather than printing off flat pictures, I will print off multiple copies on card stock and then cut out shapes or sections and glue them over the same spot of my base picture. This helps give a real world look to what would have been just a flat 2D prop.

I hope you all enjoy the pictures.

Thank you to every one who voted and left comments. All of you are very encouraging. While I have been a fan of this site for over a year I have not posted any customs since custom figures is not my strong suit. I will be posting more of my dioramas and vehicles soon.

WINNING! you've captured the "used universe" feel of SW with 100% accuracy here and the sheer size and multitude of populated figures and ships is unreal.

The sheer size of this set is amazing in itself! Sitting here looking at that same X-wing in my studio and trying to envision all of this around it is overwhelming! If this doesn't win I would be surprised! Any Star Wars fan would kill for a setup like this...I'd almost give my lifesize R2-D2 Pepsi cooler for it!

Very nice. This is no tiny diorama. Love the use of the quarter machine bulbs. Those things are so versatile.
