After finishing my first Marvel Select Hulk, it was on my shelf with the other Select Avengers and I wasn't quite 100% happy with it. Then I saw grungethemovie's 12 inch rotocast Hulk custom he had made into a Ruffalo Hulk, and the detail in the face made me want to rework mine. Between the colour palette he used overall on the face, and even more so around the eyes. I think it helped with the expression and the likeness. I also really like how he had done the mouth, as he had to re-sculpt it. The original had a closed mouth and his now had an open mouthed clenched teeth. I liked the treatment of the shading of the teeth, detail in the gums, and fleshy pink gradation to green in the lips. I wanted to do something like that with mine.
I wasn't quite happy with how the mouth looked on my first version. It was like he was sighing or was about to say something and just couldn't think of it. I ended up doing some dremil work in the mouth behind the cheeks, then boiled the head, and sealed the mouth shut in the position I wanted. I then re-shaped and defined the teeth. I repainted the mouth adding the gums, fleshy tones, and new pearly whites.

While I was working on this, I saw raybot's awesome Select movie Hulk with the gamma smash head, and it made me re-think the paints I was going to do for the rest of the head. I saw from his that I had totally forgot the stubble he had in the movie, and boy was that a pain to get just right.

While I was doing these touch ups and looking at photos I also remembered the salt and pepper greying they had added from Ruffalo's hair to this version of the Hulk, so I tried to get that too.
At this point the whole figure got a few more layers of paint to bump up what I had previously had and get some more shading and highlights going on. Plus some touch up work on the pants.

Now I'm really happy with it!

Thanks for checking him out!

Thanks so much for everybody who stopped by and shared their thoughts! I'm sorry I didn't get back to thank you folks sooner, but I was away on a trip, and have been checking in here by phone. I have a bit to write in this post, so there was no way I was doing it on that little keypad!
I loved this movie, I really like this take on the hulk, and I could make a billion avengers' hulks. Don't worry if I do I won't post them all.
None the less I'm really happy with the extra work I felt had to go into this, and I'm glad I saw a few custom as I mentioned that got me head spinning to do so.

Holy_Ghostbuster: Thanks! I have to say... great name!

Banner/HULK Inc. & CAb00se: Thanks guys! That is really nice of you to say so! I'm really happy with the likeness now for sure!

phineas curmudgeon: Thanks phin! The expression makes a lot more sense to me now, and I'm sooo much happier looking at him on my shelf now.

ringomendoza & fast freddie: I can't thank you guys enough. That is a high praise, so it resounds with me. Thanks!

NeCrollector & G_Rantula: Thanks a lot! I was happy with the result I got with this shot, it was the best out of 25 shots. Most of them were complete crap, so it was nice to get at least one!

Comicustoms!: Thanks a lot! I always have my eye out for what you have going one, so I really appreciate that!

AREZ: Thanks man! It's always a huge plus when you get your seal of approval! Are you still working on MOTU stuff?

ole jade jaw: Well with a name like yours I really appreciate you dropping a line on my thread! Thanks! I'll keep my eye out for your movie Hulk. I found I used a lot of layers to catch the colours I was looking for and to vary their values to get more depth.

suprasizeme: Thanks dude! Always awesome to hear from you, and I'm curious as to what's going on at your workbench!

HulkSmashedMe=(: From one hulk fan to another, that's really cool of you to post that! Thank you so much!

Bushinryus40th: Thanks a lot, I'm glad you like him. Ray inspired this, so to be compared to him is a huge compliment!

Stevid: Thanks stevid! Means a lot coming from you!

The Watcher: Thank you ominous viewer!

infamous22: Thanks man! You might not be working on stuff, but you're never out!

adi.batara: Thanks, but I have to say something I've said before and I'll say again! That hasbro gamma smash hulk intended fro kinds, is a great sculpt! With a few tweaks it can be amazing!

I just got finished looking at Rays before coming here, and I gotta say that both of you respectively nailed this figure in his own way! This looks so much more awesome than what MS gave us. First of the salt and pepper color in the hair, it's miniscule details like that that make spectating so great! The rough edges on the ripped jeans, dude I could go on. Amazing work bro!

incredible work man! ingenious what you did to the jaw. But I'm a terrible person and I'm going to nitpick XD, not your work, though. I would (and most definitely will when I get my hands on a ms hulk) re-sculpt the body...I think it's too flat and ripped (pretty much a dc universe) and it is the only thing that keeps this to be the most accurate avengers hulk evah!
ps: now you're pretty much making me re-post mine huh? damn!

I wanted to reply to you personally here. I'm really glad to see you posted your Hulk, it's freaking awesome, and it really got me rethinking mine. I also wanted to say thanks for the kind words...
However, I have to disagree with you. When I did my first ML movie Hulk I tried to make him more lumbering than ripped. I don't think the MS version is too ripped, especially in comparison with most released hulks and the Hasbro ML version. I will say the pants/hips look a tad too flat and boxy, but the size and frame is pretty close. I think the body build is based off of the innitial concept art. Like the stuff found on the Hasbro ML movie Hulk box art. Google Avengers movie hulk, and take a good look at the shot where he's tearing apart the jet (there's a bunch of this shot). I truly think this is what they were going with for body type, and accomplished it. I mean the arms and torso look exactly the same with that shot! This shot was a huge source of reference for me too. I wish I could post a link to a couple of pic I have in mind, but that won't happen here.

actually, you're right, it's flat on the waist and hips, but as I'm sculpting over a hasbro hulk, and it's reminding me a lot of MS XD although I don't like the straight cut on the torso (in neither)
I know what pic you're talking about

I really like the changes you made, especially the mouth. I like the subtle changes like the hair and extra coats of paints. This is about as good as it gets for a Ruffalo Hulk. Amazing work!!!!

Stellar work buddy, I love this! I'm in the midst of one myself and I'm having issues finding the right tones. This one awesome, and thanks for the salt and pepper idea. That really completes it.

I AGREE!! I was going to make one like this, but my MS movie Hulk got butchered because I was gonna swap out the arms to make them bigger(anybody got one to trade...lol!!), so I gotta go a different route, I have another in the box, but I guess it will stay there for the time being. I enjoy seeing other respectable customizers work rather than making my own anyhow! Love what you did Pulpy...truly a step up here!
