Okay, I'm a big fan of classic DC Earth-3 continuity, and figured that the evil Flash of the Crime Syndicate, Johnny Quick, probably had himself a Kid Flash-type sidekick. Using that as my basis, I set about making Kid Johnny Quick. First, I took a DC Universe Classics Kid Flash and used the boil and pop method to remove his head and arms just below the shoulder. I next used a tiny amount of paint remover to completely clean away the Kid Flash lightning bolt from his chest. Next, I used my razor knife to cut off the wings on the sides of the boots. Afterwards, I replaced the arms with those of a Mattel Young Justice Kid Flash found on the 'bay (these arms were used due to the fact that both Kid Flash figures use most of the same parts and are in fact compatible, as well as the fact that I wanted my Kid Johnny Quick figure to have similar style gloves to those of Johnny Quick). Next up was the chest and back lightning bolts...these were made using a photocopier with one of my handmade lightning bolt templates and shrinking them down to accommodate the joints of the chest and back and then glued to the figure in such a way as to be reminiscent of Johnny Quick's lightning triangles...as soon as the glue dried, I colored each of the four bolts red with a Sharpie. The head came up next, and that was a chore...I removed the lightning wings from the head of a DC Universe Classics Johnny Quick, and then carved out the ear caps to form a peg...setting the lightning wings aside, I used my razor knife to remove Kid Flash's ear wings, but left the ear caps intact...using my Dremel, I drilled one small hole in each ear cap to hold the lightning wings in place, and then glued them in place. (Update: Since originally posting him, I took the comments to heart regarding the angle that the lightning wings were spaced, and completely removed them and started over...the lightning wings are now angled closer to the sides of his head, which you can see in the updated photos). Once the glue had dried, I commenced a full repaint in brown on the hair and red for the lightning wings, ear caps, anf gloves. Once the paint was dry, I reattached the head to the body using the boil and pop method, and TA-DA, Kid Johnny Quick!!! Please check him out and let me know what you think, and as always, comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks. ![]() |
