Giant Man (Avengers Movie) (Marvel Legends) Custom Action Figure
Custom #:44283
Name:Giant Man (Avengers Movie)
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Marvel Legends
Creator:raybot
Date Added:November 12, 2012
Base Figure:Punisher
Height:13.00 inches
Been wanting to make a Hank Pym to go with the movie Avengers since he (and Wasp) were just terribly absent from the ever expanding movie-universe.

I started with an Icons Punisher since I wanted Hank to have a more civilian look than the fully suited Captain America spandex style outfit. Jazzed him up with some movie-styled detailing and a full head sculpt. Was going for a Nathan Fillion, but can't say it turned out perfectly. Only looks right from certain angles, but I was happy enough getting the sculpting practice. He looks pretty well in-line with the rest of the Marvel movie guys so that's a huge plus for me.

This is amazing, man. As customs, go, this one has stuck with me as a real stand-out. The head sculpt rocks! I can see the resemblance for who you were going for and it's pretty outstanding, and I am always blown away by your paint work and sculpts. Simply terrific. I will have to check out your page and see if you have any tutorials because any pointers from you would be a gem. Looking forward to seeing more of your creations!

Damn good job my good man. Damn good job. It does resemble Fillion from some angles and Patrick Swayze from others. Speaking of Whedonverse actors, I think David Boreanz would play a mean Hak Pym too.

Damn Ray, you crazy, that is an excellent likeness. He is one of my favorite actors and you did an amazing job capturing his look. Cast that head and make a custom of "Captain Hammer" from Dr. Horrible's sing-along Blog!

Love this and the Wasp. Before I read you were going for Nathan Fillion I thought it was a spot on Jerry O'Connell.

Yea, I was pretty happy with the likeness before I painted it, but if nothing else it seems to pass for at least some random caucasian actor

Yea, was really glad to find some use for that thing. I picked up an extra when those were on clearance years ago with the intent to just repaint him (because his original paintjob was cartoonishly bad) but then I moved and he went into some box I hadn't unearthed till last month. Glad I found him! And glad I got inspired to do something more than just repaint him.

what a dream if nathan fillion would portray hank pym on the silver screen, I think he could rival RDJ in how fun he would be
as for your work (if I even needed to say anything) tremendous as always

Yea, I kinda thought he'd be a great fit since Hank in the early days was just as much an adventurer as a labrat. Guy's always good in Castle too.

Sure would be cool to see something like this on film. Living in a dream world, but looking to do some more movie-styled customs since they let me do a bit more design.

great job on head,I know your not 100% happy with it but it ressembles him veyr much so well done.

I know you said you were going for a more casual look but I would like to see your take on him as a more cap spandex look, and your take on him in 6 inch size as antman pre giant man type thing.............maybe....

Heh, hardly my first headsculpt, but I have been trying to work a bit more on portraiture. I'm a lot better at the cartoonish stuff but think with a little work I'd be able to do better on real likenesses. It'd also probably help if I were using clay that didn't dry in 3 hours

My bad lol. Thats kind of one of the good things about baking clay you can sculpt it for days without it drying. I used that on my Captain Ghost Rider head. The only problem is if you use it onsmall weapons it can be pretty fragile.. But I think you should try it on your next head if you want to take your time.

Even before I read the description, I could see Nathan Fillion in that face! excellent work!

How are custom heads like this made? I don't yet understand how customizers can make these kinds of quality sculpts that look like they just came out of the factory?

Well, I sculpt everything in Apoxie/Fixit Sculpt with the hope that the sculpt will be pretty durable. It's a clay that just sticks well and dries rock-hard after a couple hours. Usually if I'm doing a full sculpt I try to hack at it with my dremel till I've got the bone structure, then build up the face from there.

your nathan fillion looks ruggedly handsome. haha great work once again raybot!!!
im just curious, would you consider selling casts for the head?
avatar
raybot -
Tuesday, November 13, 2012
I wish! Casting's super hard and not cheap to do. I'm not the best at it, but it'd be impossible for this guy since removing his head would crack the Apoxie clean off.
