Hey everyone! This is my first completed custom in quite some time. I give you my take on AOA Sugarman. He's one of the more funky looking X-Men villains of the 1990s Age of Apocalypse cross-over.

Quite a few figures lost their lives for him to come to life. The base figure is the old Toy Biz 5" version of Sugarman. The core of the figure was used, pretty much everything else was tossed. I removed the action feature and voice-chip. I immobilized the mouth joint and sculpted in neck and throat details. I also swapped out the old horns on the top of the head with some ones I had laying around in my fodder bins. Finally, I cleaned up the hair and blended it together better.

Ball joints were added to all arms. The back two took the most engineering, as I had to convert all cut joints into ball socket joints. I buried the ball sockets of a SOTA Birdie figure into the back of the figure. I had to use Plumbers epoxy to reinforce them from inside. The front arms were frankenstein-ed from the orignal arms and merged with SOTA T-Hawk ball joints and SOTA Blank arms. Each arm has at least one swappable hand set (eight in all).

The lower waist and legs were from a Hulk Classics Smart Hulk figure. The calves came from a SOTA Blanka that were sculpted over creating a similar texture so that they blended well when the figure was painted. A stiff paint brush is a great tool for creating a sponge-like pattern into sculpting compounds. Finally the boots were sculpted to blend with the SOTA T-Hawk feet.

Random fodder was used for bracelets and other add-ons. The weapons were scratch built, as the original figures weapons were a little to "soft" sculpt-wise.

Finally, the ugly guy got a solid paint job. I used vinyl spray paint for the base coat to minimize paint rub (and there was some serious paint rub). The lots and lots of dry brushing with Vallejo paints. Finally the guy was sealed with a Citadel Clear Coat.

I hope you like the end result!
