Heeeeee's a shark, he's a shark, he's a shark, he's a shark! He's a sharrrrrrk! He's a *&^%$#@ sharrrrrrrrrrk! I've had it in my mind for a long time to make King Shark, but always figured Mattel would get around to him eventually. But now that over-sized figures are no longer an option for retail or their subscription, now seemed like the right time to try him. But first I had to muster up the courage to sculpt the head. I'd never sculpted anything that large. Usually I'll do accessories, or a cowl, but I'd never tried sculpting a complete head from scratch. So King Shark's head is 100% hand-sculpted a top a Green Lantern Classics Arkillo torso. The teeth are just cut from plastic clamshell. The head took several tries (he started out looking more like a turtle, but through several reworks I think I captured his Secret Six appearance). The arms are also modified from Arkillo, while the legs came from Validus with an extra toe sculpted in the middle. Overall, the paintjob was very simple, it was the head sculpt that took the most effort. But I'm really happy with how he looks, and also a little sad that he's finished now. Much like in the way the end of Secret Six left a void. But he's Gail Simone approved! I sent her some images via twitter and got an "awesome shark" response. So he comes with the Gail Simone seal of approval, lol. Hope you guys like him as much as I do. ![]() |
