Captain America (Marvel NOW) (Marvel Legends) Custom Action Figure
Custom #:47096
Name:Captain America (Marvel NOW)
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Marvel Legends
Creator:raybot
Date Added:February 12, 2013
Base Figure:Captain America
Height:6.00 inches
Been wanting to do one of these for awhile, but the sculpting was pretty daunting as the new Cap design just has a ton of new details. Plus every artist appears to be drawing it a little differently. I do like the new movie-like tactical look his costume has now, and glad it had some story purpose since in Avengers his original suit wasn't protecting him much.

I constructed the torso from a Drax awhile ago and added the limbs/head of the new Ultimate Captain America(on the same body I started with) to reduce paint rub.

I didn't like the way the enormous new heads looked on this body so I widened the upper torso quite a bit to make the figure work better proportion-wise too. Also moved the hole on his back down so the shield mounts lower and less awkwardly, plus it doesn't go right through the star on his back.

Paint makes a helluva difference! Sometimes I feel like a flat finishing coat on factory figures and some shading really changes the overall look of a factory piece a lot.

That piece really shows off what you can do. That level of effort and sculpting is really impressive, plus your usual excellent paints.

Thanks! Really rare when I get the free time to just put a lot of different complicated techniques into a single piece (or when I really need to), but I always like the results.

oh man, you are honestly one of the best! your cap looks like a popped out of the comic!
can I ask how you made the texture of the chain mail?

I made 1x1 cm tiles of aluminum craft mesh and gently pressed into partially cured clay. Had to do it in smaller chunks like that to press the texture evenly around the contours. Real glad I got the texture right since that would really make it break a custom with a look like this.
