This Scarlet Witch figure is part of a 'Brotherhood of Evil Mutants' set. I wanted to make the original founding members based on the First Appearance of 'The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants' in Uncanny X-Men #4, but with some liberties taken with their "looks". Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. Scarlet Witch and her brother Pietro (a.k.a. Quicksilver) swore Lifelong allegiance to Magneto after he saved Wanda from a Mob of angry villagers determined to burn her at the stake. She and Pietro were the first initiated into The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants by Magneto. Her mask, bustier area and parts of her cape were resculpted. I am currently making an updated take on this, my first version of The Scarlet Witch for a customer, so keep your eyes peeled for that! Hope you guys like her!

Never has Wanda Maximoff been so stunningly re-imagined!!! She is simply gorgeous!!! That far off, disenfranchised look in her eyes is perfect for this character at this point in her existence. At her core, this is a woman, on several levels, compromised. I always thought she joined the brotherhood to protect her younger quixotic, quick tempered brother. And that she was tricked into it on purpose. As we were to later find that she is perhaps the most powerful one of them all. The lingerie is perfect for her. This is a full grown proud woman in the 60's. Doubt she was ever a little girl. She is lured into the Brotherhood (even that fact, that she is the only female, in a time of women's liberation, in a group called, "the Brotherhood" is of significance). Apparently, she is conveniently saved by Magneto from being burned for being a witch by some villagers??? Then she and her brother pledge undying allegiance to the Brotherhood. It all sounds a bit too convenient. Which begs the question,.. why would such a powerful female, who has practically raised herself and her brother, need help from anyone with a simple group of villagers? I always thought it was a set up to get her into the Brotherhood. I think Magneto had his henchman, Mastermind make her think she needed to be "saved". Then there were all those scenes of Mastermind going to Wanda to get her to come to Magneto, him lingering over her trying to convince her to come with him. She appears to be the Maid Marion figure there. Which begs the question,.. why would a mutant whos power it is to get people to do what he wants, need to try to convince anyone of anything? I think his power only worked on her once,... then she was on to him. Mastermind was definitely the Sir Guy of Gisborne character in the group. I think he wants to take over and be the King. But he needs her to do it. She's the king maker. Whomever she supports is the leader. Mastermind is just waiting for his opportunity. There's my breakdown of that group's dynamics. Go read those original comics and see if it fits.
This figure by Davey Blaze is another revelation. She has never looked so sexy and demure with that hint of distant sadness in her eyes. Again I have to say how rare it is to be commenting on a custom figure's facial expression. She almost has a kind of hurt look in her face. This really is outstanding work!! Davey has outdone himself with this set. Each figure adds dimension to the others. And just look at Wanda in the group. She is a brilliant study in hesitation & awkwardness,... a shining star, but out of place in this group. I think she participates only under duress. I regretted not buying this version of her. Because I think Davey captured her at that time in her life correctly the first time. Instead, I challenged him to make another Scarlet Witch who was more wicked, self-confident and full of power. It is a rare thing to create pathos in a sculpted figure. But I think Davey Blaze has touched it here. If there was ever pathos written on a custom figure's demeanor, I think this is the one. Outstanding job here, Davey Blaze!!!

Hey, I was just goign through comments and realised I had never gottent he chance to respond to this one! Thanks so very much for the wonderful words of support, it really means so mcuh to me and means a lot that people connect with my figures in the way that you do. That said, I meant also to respond to your breakdown of The Brotherhood, because I think it is SPOT ON! I had never considered that Mastermind may have "Masterminded" the whole thing to set up Wanda joinging the team, but in hindsight it makes perfect sense! I wouldn't put it past Magneto necessarily, to use less than savory means to achieve an end that he deems ideal. In fact, that is practically his signature. Your take on Mastermind being the "Sir Guy of Gisbourne" of the group and his secret ambitions also seems exactly right. This kind of insecure, but thriving ambition is clear even in the fact that he uses his powers constantly to make himself appear more physically attractive than he really is. It's kind of a perfect symbol for never being satisfied with himself or his station, but being to insecure to do anything directly about it the way someone like magneto would. Brilliantly observed!

Thanks so much, man! I wasn't sure how it would be recieved since it's taking some liberties from the 1st appearance comic, but I thought Silk Spectre as a base helped figure capture more of a "feel of the times" from when their 1st appearance comic was made than the figure would have had if I were really true to the look of comic. I may do a more accurate 1st appearance set someday. I definitely wanted to "up" the sexxy of this little Lady, too, haha. I am doing a second of this version now, though, that will have a slightly different vibe!
