In the world of Dungeons & Dragons, Shadow Demon is Venger's spy and reports to him.

I've always loved the animated show and the character, so it was a no-brainer to do.. For this contest I thought I'd try something different. I sculpted the winding stairs and the top half of Shadow Demon's body. I connected the torso with the stairs and painted the lower part of the demon's body on the stairs, to create a "shadow" effect.

Sculpted from scratch and painted with several brands of model paints. Hope you guys like it and thanks for looking! Be sure to vote on all the other great entries!

I love this...I especially like that you made him a 2D sculpture. I also think it's cool that he's almost invisible from the side (as you said). Well done!

As some have commented, the piece is outstanding in it's simplicity, yet still dynamic. 12th was a crime, haha...

I gave it 5 because it really brought back good memories and the idea behind the creation of it and your execution of that idea really is what makes customizing fun

FREAKING BRILLIANT!!! One of the best thought-out and most creative custom jobs I have EVER seen. I realize that on the surface it looks simple, but seriously, I've been in this game for ten years almost and feel qualified to say that this is one of the greatest customs sheerly based on the ingenuity and design. It's a perfect piece. I don't usually post comments like this but when I read the part about you blending the torso above with the paint on the stairs below and then I looked at it again and saw what you did, I was completely blown away! BRAVO!!

MattHancock, your comment made my day and took a bit of the sting out of ending 12th. So thanks a lot for that!

Very cool piece! The masonry is quite impressive. I would have liked to have seen some more images though, from other angles, to better visualize how you implemented the body/shadow design that you explained in your description. How convincing is the illusion without a black background and a front-on photo?

I'm fascinated by the technique! Does it look this good from different angles, or is the perspective forcing an illusion?

Well, the Demons torso is just a flat,2D sculpt, so from the side you basically just see the winding stairs. So yeah, it kinda depends on the angle from which it is looked at. Anyhoo thanks for you comment!
