Hasbro's Epic Heroes assortment of Marvel Legends was meant to include a figure of the New Mutants member Moonstar, as a variant of the Mystique figure. Mystique did make her way into stores. But, so far, Moonstar has not, and, now, years after that series was released, it seems as if she might not.

Well, while waiting to see what they do, I decided to make a Moonstar figure, myself, and make her unique enough to be different from their version.

I put a lot of detailing into this Moonstar figure. Although I took a few artistic liberties with the costume, creating an original look that she has never wore in the comics, it is very similar to her most iconic costumes. I wanted a depiction of her as a beautiful but fierce warrior, and I think you'll agree that with her war paint near her eyes and her arsenal of weapons, she is.

As is fitting for a warrior of Native American heritage who also trained among the warriors of Asgard, Moonstar is armed with an assortment of weapons to meet whatever battle comes her way. As can be seen in one of the pictures, her knife is removable from the sheath on her left glove. The bow string is a real, working elastic string. The sword is also removable from a strap attached to her skirt. The soft plastic skirt itself is also removable, if you choose to display her that way. The banded braids are soft, flexible plastic, so you can pose her without worrying about breaking them.

I used the many techniques I have learned to build a durable, sturdy Moonstar figure. Everything looks good, and works good... she has all of the articulation that a similar Marvel Legends figure has, in addition to having an improved range of motion in her torso thanks to a retooling that I did using a Dremel. I tried to use several different paint techniques to make the costume look spandex, the gloves leather, and the bow brushed metal.
