This is my first serious custom done a few years ago. I started by sanding down all the emblems and lopping the lightning bolts of his head. I filled in all the necessary depressions and sanded them smooth. I then smoothed out the boot line, wrinkles in the ankles and sole line to make it look like a one piece suit. A mold was made in Plaster O Paris from a regular Batman 10" for the "ears". I used two part modeling epoxy and pressed it into the mold in small pieces to prevent cracking the mold and air pockets. They were glued to the head and then smoothed. The pouches were made from Milliput. I wanted to accomplish two things with the chest emblem, 1. I wanted it to look like a raised emblem and 2. I wanted it to look leathery and abused. I made a stencil. I then added several layers of masking tape over the whole chest, changing direction with each layer. After I had it to the height I wanted, I laid the outline on it and cut out the emblem all the way to the figure. Mixed up some Milliput and with wet hands smoothed it out being sure to fill in all the edges real well. once dried, I peeled the tape, wet sanded and primered the entire figure and then painted all but the eyes, belt and pouches black. I then made several light coats of red over the emblem to give it the leather effect. Painted the eyes bright white and the pouches a subtle gray. This was time consuming cause I sanded everything down by hand as I had not bought a Dremel yet. Please wait... |
