This is one of the Lido figures from my childhood. I actually did the work on this one way back in 1982! I sharpened a lot of the mushy detail and added a new weapon and breathing controls. That spotty pattern on his back side was all hand painted. I’d never be able to do anything like that today! Originally, I had the figure coming out of some clear cast water on a small square base. I was never completely happy with the way the water turned out, and in the early ‘90s I got this bright idea to redo the bases of all my small scale figures.

The Aqua Alien got pulled off its first base and a new one was started, but I still wasn’t happy with the different clear casting materials I tried to simulate water. So, the figure just sat on a half finished base for ages. After getting the two Lido robots done, I figured it was time to finally finish the Aqua Alien. I gave up on the water idea and just went with beach sand and seaweed. I’m not totally happy with the way that turned out either, but at least it’s done.
