The Thinker (One Piece) Custom Miniature / Figurine
The early 1960s saw a rash of crazy caricature monster kits spearheaded by Hawk’s “Weird-Ohs”. The Marx toy company cashed in on the craze with a bunch of inexpensive, one-piece polyethylene figures. Those in the first batch were resculpts of the Hawk “Weird-Ohs” (which really looked a lot better than the Hawk model kits). Marx quickly followed these with their own collection of bizarre characters called “Nutty Mads”. The Thinker was one of the crazy figures released in 1963. This was a pretty simple custom, with just the magazine, roll of toilet paper and the tile floor added to the basic figure. It was common practice to give the funny monsters skin colors from all over the spectrum, so I had no problem picking gray to emulate the original statue. I airbrushed acrylics over a primer coat of polyurethane varnish. The mag is actually a BPMS Bulletin, the monthly model club newsletter I produced for more than five years; I just reduced it in Photoshop. The floor was cut from Evergreen sheet stock. Completed in 2011. Please wait... |
