Superman (DC Direct) Custom Action Figure
Custom #:77734
Name:Superman
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:DC Direct
Creator:lestat12
Date Added:November 1, 2015
Base Figure:Marvel legends Sentry
Height:6.50 inches
This custom is another shot at a Mezco 1/12 collective Superman. The base figure is a Marvel Legends Sentry ( I think... it may be Toxin or Sabertooth under there). The costume cape and symbol are all hand sewn. The boots are from an MOTUC figure. The head was made for me by Kent 32. It is a shrunken Hot Toys Christopher Reeve sculpt. Most people have tried to shrink that head down to DCUC scale and some of the likeness tends to get lost. Kent 32 had the great idea of shooting for a bigger scale to keep more of the detail. Edit: I tweaked him slightly by adding a plastic top to his cape and swapping in some fists.

I'm so sorry I didn't respond to this. Did we talk about this on PM? If not, what aspect are you having trouble with? Maybe I can help.

I like the handmade look of the symbol, less cold and sterile that way, more loose and animated

And if I cn sugggest, leave a little extra length on the sleeves, then fold the lips over the wrist and glue them. Then punch a hole to slip in the hand peg, that way you get a neat cuff.

Thanks for the comment. I'm kind of surprised that the last two comments focus on the symbol. I actually really like it. What exactly is about the symbol that people are taking issue with out of curiosity? I don't plan on changing it because I like it ( and I can't without destroying the shirt lol) but I like hearing other people's takes.

By the way thanks again for the headsculpt!

I know this is going back about a year but just read your followup question about the symbol...I think the colors of it are terrific! I think my personal crit of it would be that on this outstanding suit the symbol (1) looks a LITTLE bit squished, like top to bottom might benefit from being a little bit longer. I think what I mean is that I personally would have made it about as wide as it is tall (hope that makes sense). The only other thing I would suggest is making the actual "S" letter a bit more symmetrical. On this one, it seems the top left chest side (the yellow part there under the first curve) goes wider than I personally would have made it. If that yellow portion was drawn in more to the left side of the figure, it might offset that. Again, though, I think that's due to the width of the symbol shape (the pentagon) itself.

Really just answering your question, and not trying to be a critic. These are all just personal preferences. You keep getting better and better at these cloth suits and the effort shows. Just a couple (hopefully) helpful things from a fan of your work! Keep it up!

Matt, I see what you mean about the symbol. Fortunately there are a few more options out there than when I first tried this. It's definitely stylized. It's how I would draw it, and I think 2D is more forgiving than 3D

Dude - you keep getting better and better at this! I'd say keep working on it and keep improving the techniques. Maybe a decal for the symbol would help make it cleaner, but otherwise, great work. LOVE the blue of the fabric you chose! The colors all really pop!

Thanks man! I know you are a huge Superman fan so that means a lot. I experimented with a couple of different symbols and this yielded the best result. I'm glad you like the fabric, I have a ton left so I will probably have to do another!

Thanks! The symbol is made from the thin vinyl that comes on binder covers. I drew the symbol and cut it out with an exacto and painted it red. I then cut out the shape of his symbol with out the "S" and painted that yellow. Then I glued one on top of the other to make the complete symbol.
