We all know about Clark Kent, Superman's Alter Ego. Superman is the star of the show, and Clark is usually seen as the mask that Superman wears in order to live among everyday people in Metropolis, the Big Apricot. What if, years ago, Jonathan and Martha Kent were driving through rural Kansas, and heard a baby crying in a field. However, there was no rocket ship. This baby had been left by his parents, whoever they were, and he simply lay wailing among the foliage. Not wanting to leave the wee babe alone in field, they brought him home and raised him as their own. Instead of superhuman powers, Clark showed good upbringing, and upheld the law as best he could, as his parents taught him. Taking on their name, he later thought about moving to Metropolis, but didn't. He pondered the option of going into media, choosing instead, to serve his country. He joined a group of anti-terrorist, para-military individuals known as G.I.Joe. His teammates found him a capable member of the team, and General Hawk was more than ready to recruit him as a member of G.I.Joe. His codename was Blur, as Clark was one of the fastest in his recruit class to assemble his weaponry for battle. Clark attributed this to years on his parents' farm, where he, under the tutelage of his aging father, Jonathan, learned how to strip down and repaired the farm's tractors and other machinery. This was a rather simple custom. I'd had this Man of Steel head around for a long time, and the film and come and gone. He'd been swapped from body to body to body. I'd lucked out and gotten a Renegades Duke and was playing around with parts. The skintones matched and I test fit the head on the body. Renegades Duke has a very tall neck post, so I cut off the original ball piece, and then carved out another ball piece out of the rest of his neck, which is unseen under the head, so even though a lot of factory paint came out, leaving him with a gray colored neck ball, nobody would ever see it, except now you all know, because I've just mentioned it. Growing up, I'd always cottoned onto Clark as a character, rather than Superman, because I could relate to Clark's everyday problems, as seen in The Private Life of Clark Kent, in the Silver Age DC comics. Superman's great, because he can do everything, but Clark, at least in my opinion, was the real deal. There's an episode of Lois & Clark, where he says that "Superman is what I can do. Clark is who I am", and that's where I started this custom from, with the idea that Clark is the person, and what if he was just that, just Clark, where would he go with those values that Jonathan and Martha taught him? He wouldn't have to be mild-mannered, unless that was what he actually was. If Clark Kent, anyman, wanted to be heroic, where would he go, what would he do? And here we are. ![]() |
