Tyroc could make a case for diversity gone wrong. Having gone decades without any black members of the Legion, DC finally introduced Tyroc in the 1970's. Mike Grell, who helped co-create the character explains it this way, "Their explanation for why there were no black people [in the Legion] was that all the black people had gone to live on an island. It's possibly the most racist concept I've ever heard in my life...I mean, it's a segregationist's dream, right?" To further explain where these characters had been, they set up an island off the coast of Africa that disappeared into another dimension every 200 years or so, and that's why the Legion had no black members before this. I don't, a little crazy, right? I guess they meant well, so you can't hate it too much, but maybe they would've been better served just not trying to explain it?

Anyway, Troy Stewart possesses "reality warping screams". Tyroc could basically do anything with his voice such as teleportation, force fields, heat, freeze...he basically could do it all in his little outfit that must've been designed by Elvis and Bob Kane. Some of his scream included:

EEYYAAAHH! – pyrokinesis
AHHRRRRRR! – force field
OYYUUUUUU! – teleportation
ARRRRHHHH! – explosions
ZZZRRRUUGGHH! – telekinesis
UIUUIEEEE! – transmutation
ARRREEEEG! – weather manipulation
IRRRRWWWW! – plant manipulation
CCCIIIRRR! – vertigo
RRRYYYY! – wind manipulation
UGGGGHHHHHH! - questioning his own wardrobe choices

Tyroc here continues my pursuit of building a proper Legion shelf. However, sadly this one was a commissioned piece, so I still have to complete one for myself. Tyroc was made using a DCUC Obsidian body (not many other uses for that belt!) and a Mr. Terrific head. The afro, booties, and gloves were sculpted on, as were the balls on his chest that hold his actual chains (yes, he also wore chains). His collar came from a Phantom Stranger cape and was blended into the body to, hopefully, look like just a solid extension of the torso. Overall, I'm really happy with how he turned out. He offered some unique problems that I probably would've put off a little longer in as I worked on less complex looking Legion members, but now that he's done I'm happy to soon add a second version to my own collection.

Thanks for looking!

Long Live the Legion!
