This Metalhead was created after viewing SirJordy33's custom of the same character. The original recipe was an Iron Monger base and vintage Metalhead head. This was the core, but I saw something that I could take and put my own spin on. The Feet were the biggest departure, as I used some bulky robo-feet from an electronic walking War Machine. These large robo feet were attached to the figure's original knee cap/guard, which retained the knee's articulation, and I pitched the lower legs to create the turtle-tank proportions I envisioned. The feet are hollow to house the walking mechanism of their donor figure and the soles come off giving access inside, a great opportunity to use a screw rather than super glue to attach them. The other departure was using a bigger shell. I really liked the nyc stamp on the original, but felt it was too small, so I took one off a talking Halfshell Hero Raph because it had a synthetic look to it (the shell is actuall a flat green color with a wash, the brown in the photo is from a warm light source reflection). The shell was given some slight mods for fitting and I added a hose and antenna to it to put the screw holes to good use. The vintage Metalhead head was attached by drilling a hole in the bottom just barely big enough for the neck ball joint to pop in. This made the head look really nice and flush against the shoulder armor and even lets the head rotate left and right a bit (though after paint aps I wouldn't recommend it due to the snug fit.). The Iron Monger's original shoulder armor was removed and repurposed to fill in the form of the torso between the shell and body and wasn't given any silver paint to help it match the shell. The waistline was also just given a wash and no silver to make it distinct against the rest of the figure, helping to represent the turtles' signature belts. The wheels from the War Machine's feet were used to cover the area where I made my cut when removing the lower legs. Finally, paint aps were added. First everything that was to be gold got a base coat of light grey, then white, and finally yellow before top coating with gold. The head was painted to match the body as close as I could and then the whole figure got black-washed. Twice. Then I just had to bring the figure back with dry brushing and top coats of oily silver, gold, and green. I wanted to give it a dirty, from the sewer look, just as SJ33 went for, so anything that looked too clean got another light black-wash. Hopefully that is enough info on the build for anybody wanting to recreate it. Thanks for checking out this custom Meatalhead and leaving your feedback, comments, and suggestions. Its greatly appreciated. ![]() |
