As an Enchantress fan you can imagine my bitter-sweet surprise at the Suicide Squad film. Not often do us D-List character fans get to see our favourite characters adapted, and when we do it's usually not that great. The ancient witch garb, odd language, and overall weird portrayal of my third favourite character (EVER) really put me off of Suicide Squad. Enchantress in the comics is like any other character, she is modern and sassy, not ancient and silent. As a fan of June as a hero more as a villain I put aside my Shadowpact bias, but even looking at Suicide Squad as a classic Enchantress fan I did not buy the portrayal. What Enchantress does have going for her in the DCEU is June Moone. If Enchantress comes back (Justice League Dark anyone???) they have a great opportunity to use the comics and redeem Enchantress. After being seperated from June in the comics (for all of you who believe she is dead in the films, listen up) Enchantress was pulled into hell. After some good ol' free labour Enchantress reunites with June and they do some stuff and then bam Shadowpact forms together to take on Spectre! I don't know if the movies tend to transition her into the exclusive hero club, but if they do it's safe to say it will be with the Justice League Dark and not a whole team of D-Listers. Anyway, regardless of my mixed feelings of Enchantress's portrayal I love Enchantress and I love Cara Delevigne so obviously I had to make a figure. I started with Misty Knight and I just went for it with a knife, a mistake I later came to regret. I thought chopping the details off would save me time, but I couldn't fix it up later and I had to sculpt over the whole upper body something like 4 times to get it right. After that there was a lot of sanding and smoothing followed by painting and then sculpting and then more painting. Often times when I'm working on a figure there is a lot of "WHEN WILL THIS HELL END" for me, but this was different. Every part of this felt like a learning experiance and I loved making this figure so much for all of the different tools I got to work with, obstacles I overcame, and materials I utilised. This will not be my last DC movie figure for sure, but for now I'm going to go back to my comic book roots for a few figures. Stay tuned! ![]() |
