Hi Tolkienites and Realmers I've finished my 8th, I believe, Dwarf member of the company of Thorin Oakenshield. I am proud to present Gloin. I've been doubling up with Dwarf customs for a change and so I'm so near completion of another one. I just need to do a little bit of sculpting on one weapon, make a sheath and then do a little bit more sewing (which you all know I love so much. I've just added more pictures so you can see the before/after. Recipe literally is: Take the hair not the beard from 2 Corronation Gimli's and reshape then attach to a Gimli head using glue to attach to a neck from an Ezio figure so it fits but still is a ball joint. Corronation Gimli body fattened up and then using hot water to remove the chainmail arms and gloves. Using heat again remove the arms from Pelenor Field's (Black Gate) Aragorn figure and the hands. cut the hands in half and remove a portion from between to make shorter. cut below the joint of the upper arm joint where it pops into an upper arm and then attach the peg swivel joint from the top of the gimli figure's arms previously removed. Cut the Vambraces on the Aragorn above the buckle straps (cut that part in half) then glue back together to shorten. Cut the bottom off the Gimli Legs and then glue Faramir's boots on which have been cut just below the upper shoe tongue. Cut the Toe's off and resculpt to mocasin style with miliput. Sculpt a fingerless glove style onto both shortened hands, then a hand armour part like thorin (just the shape not the detail) then the vambrace on the forearm. Then sculpt the weave detail on the vambrace and hand. Cut the detail off the Gimli Skirt and cape and sand down the back to make thinner. Cut the shape of the Skirt out then glue onto the figure's waist below the joint. Glue on the detail. Sculpt a beer gut, then the two shirt details up the belly to the neck then the overjacket detail lines only as after jsut the darlker coloured parts with a trim colour have dried you can fill the gaps up with miliput thinnly then sculpt the detail of the red part. Take two deadpool Katana's and using a lighter carefully heat the back of the blade and bend for a split second to get bent blades then sculpt over the bottom half handles. make a sheath (in this instance I used Altair's Knife sheath and sculpted over it addign the detail. Both Axes are jsut repainted from Gimli's. I sculted over the arm armour the zig zag pattern.
Study the beard understand the underbeard and over details and build up layer by layed, hair is easy part. Braids you jsut need to do a pattern with a long line and a shorter line joining the middle of that line and so on so forth.

Locket-> google search Gloin's locket. Copy and past picture of frame/ portraits onto Microsoft Word, set page to 100%, resize to fit right size, print it off, cover the picture with celotape, use pritt stick to stick to plastic sheet taken from old action figure packaging. cut in half so you have Gimli and his mother's picture on sepperate pieces. Cut a rectangle then make it into 3 leaving them joined at one end but remove the middle rectangle. wrap all 3 around a pole but have excess straught ends (I used the packaging metal twist tie) then glue the retangles wrapped round leaving teh middle one unglued so its loose. Essentially will be a Hinge made of plastic, then glue each half of the hinge to the back of the Gimli and Mother potrait plastic side then sculpt over with milipt to hide hinge on the back then finally sculopt the frame which is easy as you're sculptin onto the pootrait which has the frame in the picture. If anyu of that makes sesne great if not I hope the additional photo's helo whenI post them.

I did cover all this already but it must not have gone through or I might have cut or deleted it so it didn't appear. Apologies for it being invisible xD but now you can all see how it was done.

Haha, to say „the recipe is complex” would be extremely understated. It’s INSANE, haha ! Highly impressive which parts you use and how you modify them. Really, really creative and smart to recognize the possible potential of parts.

I will also mention that its crucial for anyone making the dwarves to usee the picture of the dwarves height in comparison. If you google: 'the hobbit dwarf fat suits' then it gives you pictures of the 13 dwarves in their body suits whetehr thats muscle, fat suit or super fat for bombour and their heights which if you want them to be acurate you need to use. Gloin's actor Peter Hambleton is 5'9'' for example so I made him taller than some but shorter than others. Dean O Gorman (Fili is 5'7 so I believe my Gloin is taller by a little bit). Obviouslly this doesn't mean you mnake the dwarves 5-6 foot scale in 6 inch scale lol, just use THorin (6'11) for the architype figure then work out the differences in height to make sure they aren't just random sizes despite what some photos will tell you this information of their actual heights is crucial.

Oh WOW !?! Wonderful !
Looks absolutely perfect ! One of your best ! I love the hair- and beard-sculpt. The paintjob as well. The only thing I miss on this one is the detailed recipe.? I‘m curious, how you made this tiny photo-case.
Hudge kudos to you !
