“So there I was at the mercy of three monstrous trolls, and they were all arguing amongst themselves about how they were going to cook us whether it be turned on a spit or if they should sit on us one by one and squash us into jelly! Anyway the spent so much time arguing about the withertoos and why does that the suns first light crept over the trees PHWOOSH and turned them all to stone!”

Back in the Tolkien contest I was going to submit these three iconic trolls, made even more so by the movie, but I had only finished Bert and knew there’d be a lot of sewing. So as I said I’ve posted my 111th custom and can start showing what I’ve been up to so here’s the Trolls from the Hobbit. I have a few extra photos I will present later but here’s what I can up with. I took 3 LOTR toybiz trolls (the chain ones) and removed a lot of the rubber faces and repositioned the eyes then using milliput I resculpted their faces, added an extra finger to each hand as they have more than the ones we’ve seen before, removed some teeth and sculpted mouths some still moveable and repainted them entirely which took a while. Then I made their clothing specifically loin cloths for all three but braces on Toms and an apron for Bert. Then facial hair wise Bert has a thin neck beard, William has Bill Sykes mutton chips and Tom has scraggly hair and crazy eyebrows. They all have different ears noses eye positions and facial expressions. Fun fact they were also played by 3 of the Dwarves Peter Hambliton (Gloin) as William the leader, Mark Hadlow (Dori) as Bert the cook and William Kircher (Bifur) as Tom. Their accessories are Williams knife, Berts ladle/spoon and Toms handkerchief and his large surge knife.
I took a nightshoot and a dawn shoot and will add some more pics. Here’s a look at the trolls and some scenes hope you all like, I’m really happy with how they turned out. Getting those Dwarves on a spit was a tad tricky to say the least, but as you know they should be sautéed with a sprinkling of sage!
