Whats up everyone? Welcome back for yet another custom reveal. This time around, its a commission I did for a fellow Vancouverite (which was super cool!). So without further adieu, here is, my custom Rebbeca Romijn movie Mystique.

Mystique was made using a Phoenix body with a Hell Cat upper torso, a silk head cast and feet from a Dana Barrett Ghostbusters figure. Pretty straight forward recipe really, but I suppose thats to be expected given that in the movies, Mystique wears no clothes. So an essentially “naked” (in terms of details) female body worked like a charm here.

The sculpting was minimal on this one. I used Apoxie Sculpt to fill in the peg holes on the legs and Procreate to create some flexible hair on her noggin. Up to this point, the custom was super simple. But the textured skin was extremely time consuming.

A while back I bought a product off Amazon called a Bondic Pen. This pen has a gel in it that when exposed to the accompanying UV light, hardens like a rock. Once hardened, it can be sanded, painted and is extremely durable. I bought it thinking I may be able to use it for future customizing products, and I am so glad I did because it worked like a charm here.

Using a toothpick to apply, I dabbed each scale onto Mystique’s body one by one, working on one small section at a time. I tried my best to follow reference pictures but obviously it was wayyyy too detailed to get 100% accurate. Thankfully my customer was ok with that and was ultimately happy with the end result.

As for the paint job, Mystique is sporting 5 different shades of blue, 2 of which are metallic blues. The base coat was applied using an airbrush, as was the first shade of overspray, however shades 3,4,5 all were applied via dry brush. I applied a coat of Testors Dull Coat to finish her off and she was ready to go home to her new owner.

Overall, I am beyond stoked with the results of this project. She turned out looking great, my customer was beyond happy with her and I got to use a new method along the way. While she looks great in the pics, she looked even better in hand. I was sad to see her go but I’m glad she went to a happy customer.
