Shortly after the release of Jurassic World, I made a custom figure of Owen Grady from a World War Z Gerry Lane figure. I originally used the head from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 Star-Lord, which doesn't really resemble Chris Pratt. I replaced that with a head from a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Star-Lord, and also repainted the shirt darker. The vest is from Black Series Han Solo. The rifle is from movie Jonah Hex, with the scope from a Madame Hydra machine gun. Hasbro eventually made an official Owen Grady figure and now Mattel has made figures of Owen and Claire for the new movie, but they're in the 3 3/4 inch scale. I wanted to make a 6 inch scale Owen to match the bigger Blue figure from the first movie, but I really like how the new Mattel figures look and am hoping to get a few.

A journalist friend very kindly offered to take my customs of Owen and Blue to the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom junket in Shanghai, and brought back great photos of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reacting to the custom. It's kinda tricky in situations like this, because typically the publicists panic about it and swoop in to stop photos but the actors themselves are usually pretty cool and in many cases, showing them something like a custom figure helps break the ice a little before the interview. Director Juan Antonio Bayona wanted to take a selfie with Blue, and I love the resulting photo. Always grateful to friends with better press access than I have!

Jedd, Great looking Owen Grady custom, right on the money. The settings are beautiful. You’re in Singapore, right? Wow, what a plus that the actors and the director got to see the figures.

Thanks Pancho! I like to take action figure photos in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Most of Singapore is a city, so the Botanic Gardens are a great location for forest/jungle settings.

Outstanding customs as usual Jedd and congratulations on getting the actors and directors to admire your work. Now it's time to make a Bryce Dallas Howard custom.

Thanks! I'm a film critic and I have friends who are also in the industry. In this case, it was a friend who is a journalist for a newspaper. People who work for more recognised outlets get better access than I do, and I'm grateful when they're willing to help me out. I like to think that by borrowing the gimmick I've built up over the years, it also gives them something that stands out when they go in to interview actors and filmmakers.

Thank you Redmist! It's not an easy job to hold on to - I was writing for a magazine until they gradually stopped printing physical issues and have moved over to an online outfit, but even that it's difficult to stay afloat. I hope to keep being able to do this and with every piece I write I want to improve and write reviews that provide meaningful analysis but are also fun to read.

Thanks Edgy! Yeah, I think I've always wanted to be a 'professional fanboy' and while writing movie reviews is sometimes a little tedious, I'm grateful for the opportunity and try to be deserving of it with the work I put out. My friend's editor saw the figures and thought it would be a good draw on social media, so she worked that into the interview and I'm really happy she got the photos she did.

Thanks Deaditor! I've been a film critic for several years, but my publication isn't big enough that I get sent on overseas junkets often, so I'm grateful for the help of friends with better access than I have!
