I spent 3 months making this. It is a Smaug puppet! I found a Godzilla flashlight and thought I could paint it like Smaug but I didn't look anything like it and the more I looked at it, the more I obsessed over it. Finally, I broke down and cut the thing up. I really ended up sculpting 95% of the bust. I found a plastic cup and molded the clay around the cup. Then cut the cup in half and put a joint in between the top halves. I went to the dollar store and bought a few plastic lizards and alligator. I used the scales and tales to help add details. Sadly, it is very fragile. And heavy. This thing weighs like 2 pounds. He may not be to scale, but there is not a scale out of place! It is 11" by 11" and the Bilbo figure can standup in his mouth. Maybe someday I will build a body, but for now, it is a puppet. ![]() |

Congrats on this wonderful work !
This is awesome! Puppeteers who sculpt their concepts, cast, and use either latex or pollyfoam. Both material would solve your weight and fragility issue, and you could even sell copies, and you could sign me up for one, that's for sure!
There are a ton of tutorials on both materials you can find on YooToob. This is great stuff from fabrication, sculpt, to paints! I think you should look into getting it cast to preserve your hard work!
