In an incredibly divisive move, the second JJ Abrams Star Trek decided to use Khan as their principal baddie (“John Harrison” in the ad campaign) in an attempt to capitalize/ape the superlative Wrath of Khan. It was perplexing not only due to the fact that an English actor was used to play a character originally introduced as a Sikh (originally played by one of Mexican descent) but that they tried to convince us leading up to the release that he was not Khan at all, being used as a larger conspiracy. In fairness, the supplemental comic series explained the change in his ethnicity, but if it’s not in the movie frankly it doesn’t count. I did enjoy the performance. Figure was completed in 2014.
