Originally played by American actress Bibi Besch in Wrath of Khan, the character of Carol Marcus was retconned in 2013s Star Trek into Darkness as a young British Starfleet scientist/Kirk love interest played by Alice Eve. She was underwritten and exploited as a sex object for a sight gag that never had any payoff as the character disappeared by the time the follow up Star Trek Beyond was released three years later, where, presumably, their ill-fated romance happened off screen.
