Hulk Marvel Select (Diamond Select) - Avengers Movie Rated 4.00 stars by pulpyfiction What can I say, this is the best Marvel Select Hulk to date!
From the amount and style of articulation to the solid paintwork, it's so much better than its predecessors. Although it's the best Marvel Select Hulk, how does it stack up to it's movie likeness? Fair, but not great.
Articulation -4.5
18 Points. The most to date, before that, 10 from the M.S. Green and Red Hulks. Ball joints for shoulder to arms, and also feet to ankle like that of the Colossus and Juggernaut, giving a great range of movement.
The hips have gone to a DC universe style swivel and hinge. Which actually the M.S. Ultimate Grey Hulk had.
He has a slide swivel in the center of the chest to give it a left to right slide, and front to back turn. However I would have rather seen this joint type or a swivel at the...[See More]
City Hunter Predator Predators (Neca) - Series 4 Rated 3.50 stars by pulpyfiction So I finally got my hands on one of these figures for $20! I feel this is a fair price, anymore and you're just buying into the hype of this figure. This review is for the single pack, unmasked version of the figure.
So first off, the articulation is fantastic, for the series that is. This is a big step up from the previously released figures. After the prototype was shown, a lot of fans were drooling at the mouth for these because of the articulation alone. I have to say, it's good, but not amazing. With either 16 or 18 points of articulation, it depends if you count the swivel hinge elbows as a single point of articulation or two (a debated point in the figure world). The figure features balljointed neck, peg and hinge shoulders and elbows, balljointed wrists, balljointed waist,...[See More]
Nick Fury Captain America - The First Avenger (Hasbro) - 6" Scale Rated 3.00 stars by pulpyfiction So the hubbub about this figure is really about a head sculpt, because the figure below is the Hasbro Marvel Legends Two pack Ultimate Nick Fury, which is a Hasbro Marvel Legends Punisher with a new turtle neck sculpt around the collar, a sweet black jacket (that customizers love), new jacket style arms instead of short sleeved ones, and cut off gloved hands.
The head looks great! They nailed it. I wouldn't say it's super detailed. I mean it's not as good a likeness as the mcfarlane Shaft figure, but they got a great likeness of him.
Accessories, oh yeah! Holsters on the hip (same as the Hasbro Pun), and the under arm holster that fits under his jacket... Sort of. This under arm holster differ from the ones found on the Hasbro two pack Ultimate Nick Fury, and are reversed. The...[See More]
Would love to see how you modded him - I was just thinking to do the same thing! Maybe take a bit off the boot tops? Oh, this might make you feel a lil better about the poseability issues: the comic NF two pack you refer to came BEFORE the Nemesis Punisher. Both figs released in 2008, July and December, respectively. So, if anything, the Punisher was an improvement on the NF, not that the NF was a degrading of a great Punisher sculpt. Just thought you'd like to know which came first.
Captain America Captain America - The First Avenger (Hasbro) - 6" Scale Rated 3.00 stars by pulpyfiction Overall I think he looks pretty good. The detail in the sculpt of the suit is pretty great! I don't think the likeness of Chris Evans is as good as the Fantastic Four figures, but he is in a mask so it limits his features shining through. I can overlook that, the mask is done pretty well, and is film accurate unlike the Marvel Select version.
Paints are rather good for the level of quality or lack there of that we have seen from Hasbro's Marvel Legends. You can see where they have done washes over the blues to promote the sculpts texture in the suit.
They also tried some washes to give the whites in the suit that off white dirty look of the film. It's good, not great. Washes for the whites were done in grey, but could of used some tan or browns to further enhance the look. The...[See More]
"Ralphy's little brother in his snowsuit" I love it. I'll probably be popping this one to pieces and sanding him down to take care of that. Repaint and head swap or multiple heads and this will be golden. Awesome review, more stars than the figure!!!
thanks man! I know you're a Cap guy so you'll do him justice! To tell you the truth I want to do that, but I'm also thinking of using different shoulders and biceps and making strapped on, but free floating shoulder pads like I made for my Marvel Select movie cap. thanks for the comment G!
this figure was dissapointed, the marvel select and the other from the movie were made on the concept desing, that can be see on shoulder and necks, but this doesn`t look like chris evans. being honestly I think our custom its better, exept the accesories. like the gun or the shield details. if you didn't saw it, please do it and comment your opinion its always appreciated
Thor (Movie Series) Thor - The Mighty Avenger (Hasbro) - 6" Scale Rated 3.50 stars by pulpyfiction 6 INCH THOR!
I was excited to get this, it was a big upgrade from the Marvel Select. I liked his paint. The face was well done, there were different tones in the hair, and the armour was clean, plus they did a black undercoat for the scale mail armour on the arms before putting the silver over top. It gives it a look of definition in the sculpt. It's not perfect, but it looks better than some of the 3.75 scale stuff where the arms are painted just a straight silver. The Helmet is one silver, and more of a gun metal than silver. That could of used some work.
Another improvement would to either have make the helmet removable or add a separate head. The Hasbro head pegs are easy swaps, with no boil and pop necessary, and their alternate swappable heads in the Legends line use the...[See More]
hi, glad to read to you. yeah finally they made a 6" movie thor. ( thats was the reason why we made a thor movie custom, but I was really dissapointed about the helmet specially the paint. did you saw our lasts works? thanks for a great review
Thor Marvel Select (Diamond Select) - Thor - The Mighty Avenger Rated 2.50 stars by pulpyfiction Marvel Select, always a double edge sword. They either look great, and have horrible articulation, or they have good articulation and look like crap. I don't feel that they can blend the best of both words for the most part. Yes, there are some exceptions to the rules, but I'm generalizing.
Anyway, I'm looking at the Marvel Select Movie Thor. I've added some photos of the toy, as well as Chris Chris Hemsworth in the costume. I think they nailed his look. I love how this figure looks. The Hammer is great looking, and the paints help the overall look too.
But that's it, that's where my love of this figure ends. All that glitters is not gold. This figure would be good as a statue if it could properly stand, making it a great looking paper weight! I was worried about this just being...[See More]
You are right about the figure and that it doesn't stand well at all! First time I put him on my shelf with the rest of my Thor figures thinking I had him standing nice and strait and next thing you know he falls and knocks all the rest of the figures with him! What I notice you have to do is position his feet slightly down and have him leaning back a little and using the cape as a stand. But I have to say I do love the sculpt of the figure! Great review!
I was going to talk about the cape but I was worried, I might be going on too much. Don't you think the cape is part of the problem too, like it's just too long? I think that's why it works as an anchor so well, but it doesn't help if you try to drape it right at the back of his feet. Like you're mentioning stevid, I think it only works if you drag it back and use it to hold the weight of the figure. Good idea on the feet placement. That seems to be the only possible way to get it to stand for any time at all. Mine just won't even really stand unless he's pegged down on a stand. I've had some issues like yours where he's jumped and taken everyone around with him, only instead of a group of Thors, he took down my marvel movie avengers both actual released figures and custom! Argh!
