Sansker Spawn (McFarlane)This exclusive is interesting to me; given the cost of retooling the head and arms, they would have been better served giving it a wider release, perhaps as one of those running changes they were so fond of. Oh well, it's easy enough to find one these days. Anyway, what we have here is Sansker in mid-transformation, so if a straight-up snake with arms didn't grab you, this has an extra sprinkle of weirdness that takes it up a notch in terms of personality. The once-impressive paint job seems a tad ham-fisted by modern standards, particularly in the transition from skin to scales, but it gets the job done, and the sculpt is definitely on the high end for the era. Articulation is light, with swivels at the neck, shoulders, wrists and waist, plus a bendy tail that gets more horizontal motion than one would expect from looking at it. He looks great in the one pose, with room for slight tweaks here and there, but the sculpt is broken the minute his arms move up. Accessories are minimal; just like the standard release, he has nothing more than a...stalactite? It's far too thick to be a stake, almost as wide as a human head. He definitely looks off without something in his hand, but there's room enough for any random severed limb you have handy. This line had a lot of those. Not a must-have character by any means, and outclassed twice over since by Viper King and Medusa, Sansker isn't for everyone. But he's a pretty serviceable snake man if you just need one for set dressing, or a large army of reptile folk. Annoyed by the lack of Yuan-ti in the old D&D toyline? Here ya go. Both versions have some charm, this is just the one I have handy for review. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
