Horn Head Madballs (Premium DNA) (Premium DNA)Premium DNA’s first wave of Madballs figures has been pretty great so far, and I’m down to the last one for now, who also happens to be one of the more well-known ones in the franchise. Horn Head may look like a brute, but according to the original line, he’s one of the good guys. Then again, does anyone in the Madballs world look like a pleasant person? The head sculpt here looks a good deal nicer than how he did back in the 80s. Specifically comparing him to the original “Head Popping” figure, his eye and horn are larger, and there’s a couple white spots all around his head (what are those, pimples?). Looking him up, I saw that he looks like that in most Madballs products nowadays, and it carried over here. His body is covered in fur, even though he has a bald head and blue facial hair (?). And just to make him look gross, there’s a couple stitches all around his body. He definitely looks like the kind of guy who’d get into a lot of scrapes. While there’s some bleed with the paint, the fur on the body looks nice, being a bold purple (compared to the dark reddish-purple he had back in the day) with gray accents. He stands around 6 ½” tall, with that horn giving him some extra height. The articulation is the same with every figure in this line, and Horn Head is no different with ball-jointed head and chest, and swivel/hinge joints at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles. Out of all the four we’ve gotten in this wave; his joints feel the nicest. You can get some tilt of the chest, but not so much the head. And just like everyone else, all of his joints pop apart, allowing for part swapping with the others. For accessories, we got the same hand options as the others, with a pair of fists, open hands, grips, and pointing hands. They all fit in nice and tight, but popping them out is a bit of a challenge. The flail is a pretty cool inclusion, mainly thanks to it having a real chain, and the ball has a face resembling its owner. He also has a nasty spiked club, with a skull embedded on it (it’s too small to be a Madball’s…), and a bug-and-worm-infested chicken leg for him to chow down on. Believe it or not, Premium DNA actually put out a second Horn Head around the time they started shipping out. That version of him had a paint scheme styled after My Pet Monster, and orange-colored accessories. He was also a limited piece, with 500 units sold through DNA’s site, and 500 through Amazon. He’s sold out since then, and while I’m not interested in getting it, you’ll have to resort to eBay prices if you want him. Horn Head is the nicest figure in the line, but he’s my second favorite after Bruise Brother. Overall, the first wave of Madballs has turned out really nice. While we all know that Premium DNA hasn’t had the best past, they came in strong this year with these, and I’m glad all (if not most) who wanted these got them. I’m more excited to be getting Earthworm Jim figures from them, though. -5/16/2022 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
