Write a Review link for that item. Marvel Legends (Hasbro) (Hasbro)With the announcement of HML3, fans wondered why we needed another Captain America. And for good reason, we’ve already gotten two from the mainstream universe and one from the Ultimate Universe. However, with this Cap, Hasbro tries something new. Umm, something old. A bit of both actually. On the day Steve Rogers walked into an Army recruiting office in New York City, he was just a scrawny art student desperate for a way to serve his country. Rejected outright by the recruiter because of his limited physical limitations, Steve was offered a chance to take part in a top-secret program that turned him into the super soldier known as Captain America. Armed with enhanced strength, reflexes and an indestructible shield, he battles injustice, tyranny and fear wherever it is found. He is the living symbol of the American ideal, a fierce individualist who is nonetheless willing to sacrifice everything he has for the sake of the greater good. So this IS Cap from Earth-616, but about 65 years in the past. The sculpt on this guy is top-notch, with everything from sculpted scales to crinkly cloth texture around the wrists and ankles- essentially, where they’d make the most sense. The stripes on his stomach and back are etched in, though they usually don’t match up across the torso hinge. Yes, they match in the front and back, but along the sides (where there is actually a gap), they don’t do it so easily. With that minor exception, the paint on this guy is pretty clean. Some buyers have been put off by the color of the red, but honestly, printing presses weren’t very good 65 years ago, they only had a few shades of the colors. Everything is clean, and while the stars on his back, chest and shield, they are still star-shaped. And speaking of his shield, it’s re-used from 2006’s Patriot figure from the Young Avengers box set. Now, just because it’s a re-use doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s pretty accurate to the one issue it was in, due to design similarities. No, the bad part is it doesn’t fit. For the shield to be worn properly, you have to either stress the plastic on the clip, or fit it where the gap of the wrist joint is. Neither is good, as the former will eventually cause it to break, and the latter will cause that joint to become loose. I’ll go with the latter, as it’s easier (for me) to tighten the wrist joint than to fix the shield. An additional swivel in at the end of his gloves would have helped, but it looks like that may have interfered with the elbow joint. Speaking of which, this guy is articulated out of the wazoo! He’s done in Toybiz style, with ball-joints in the wrists and ankles instead of separate joints. Here’s the run down: Ball-Jointed neck, and shoulders, swivel biceps, double hinged elbows, ball-jointed wrists, hinged torso, swivel waist, ball-jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel shins, and ball joints in the ankles. The ankles don’t have a significant range of motion either forward or back, and the addition of the swivel shin is odd, and the only positive I can see is it’ll be easier swapping the boots out for some with a better range of motion in the ankles. Besides his shield, Cap has nothing accessories wise. Yes, he has the three back left legs of the Brood Queen, but I don’t count those because you can’t really use them to interact with the figure. A reprint of his 1st Appearance would have been nice, even with the lack of reprints with the rest of the figures. So even with a few oddities, I still gave this guy a high star count. Why? You may be able to chalk it up to I don’t have any other Caps, but I still think that the real reason is he’s a perfect image of his 1st appearance, shield and all.   by Tom-Tom |

I just want to say something about the GA Captain America figure. Because Jack Kirby''s art was on the packaging, I picked it up. This Cap looks a bit more like a Kirby Captain America. His head,... and face look a bit more "strong"... and Kirbyesque. But, to tell the truth, I''m really disappointed with the figure. The shield that doesn''t fit his arm... is one thing.... but the figure is just "bad". The way it looks with the abdominal bend, the way it moves, the ball-joints,... the orange-red coloring of the gloves and boots...the open hands instead of fists... his right ball-joint at the hip doesn''t work right...just make this figure "unacceptable" to me.
I really wanted a Jack Kirby Captain America that I really liked.
This is NOT that figure.
The Red Skull figure and the Bucky figure are BIG FAILURES for me, too. I''m really disappointed with what Hasbro is doing.
If I graded this figure ... I would give it a D--. I''m mad I spent the money on the three figures only to be so disappointed.
