So there you are walking down the action figure aisle of your favorite mart, and you spot it...the packaging of that one figure you're missing, you rush over and grab it only to find the polished turd some A-hole left behind, a repacked figure, I'm sure it's happened to all here at a point in time, in my opinion it's nothing but glorified shoplifting.
Here I'm sharing some images of some of my re packed findings, please let me know your thoughts and opinions about this phenomenon.
Went to my Local TRU last night and spotted a Sandman BAF Black Symbiote Spider man, wheni grabbed the package some one had replaced it with a old HALO fig, so I grabbed the closes associate that I found and I explained to him what was going on with this figure...dud looked at me all clueless and said "wait that's not Spiderman?" so I asked for his supervisor he came and I explained to him what was going on he said he would tale care of it, five mins later I walked by the shelf again and the repacked Halo fig was back up.
Recently on Ebay a seller had listed a Hulkbuster BAF Valkyrie as a "factory misprint/error", but it was nothing more than the Valkyrie head popped onto a Hellcat body which had been hastily painted all black (the yellow shoulder joints were still visible), and the BAF piece had been replaced with a BAF Hobgoblin leg. I messaged the seller to point out what he actually had in his hands and he was quite appreciative of my help, thanked me and pulled the auction. Felt bad for him thinking he had found a rare figure at his local Wal-Mart when in fact he'd fallen victim to yet another scammer.
Once I saw a ML Vision from the hulkbuster series with a repainted Thing's torso insteado of the usual BAF part. And at the time, I thought this could have been a factory placement mistake, and I almost bought it just because I honestly thought it was legit (like, some wave they will release in the future when FF is cool again for the great audience).
This is definitely a dishonest practice. Suck that they can get away with this. Another thing that gets me riled is when I find the figure missing from the box in the store. Although sometimes I've been able to buy what's left for a reduced price, but most of the time they have to return what's left to the manufacture.
That pic of the old Scarlet witch made me wince. That is a truly awful figure.
It's more like they buy the figure, take it home, replace it with another and then return it, thus getting their money back, and the employees are none the wiser...tell you what tho, these re-packers are lucky I don't work at any of these retailers, cuz I'd be busting them left and right.
Wait a minute- who the hell has the time/skill to neatly place these bogus parts or whole figures into a case???? That cannot be easy! These pics made me laugh tho! I once saw an Ian Mckellan Magneto from X1 (2000) in a Blk Series Stormtrooper pkg LOL! So are these employees being asked to do this? Or thieves equipped w/figs in their pockets? I mean either way- that takes freakin' TIME!
I can tell you that whenever I see this I ask for the store manager and show him what I found, I've had a couple of times at Toys R Us when the manager has asked me for the pictures, so he can have them on hand to train the other store associates.
Thats great to hear, though I can't imagine there being any effective solution to this problem. Say the employee processing the return for the figure knows its the wrong toy in the package, okay, but they don't know if the customer is a scumbag or just a bewildered parent who bought this for their kid not knowing it was the wrong figure, and now they want to return it.
Either way, I still give employees a heads up when I see packages torn open, like pokemon blister packs or blind bagged stuff, at least no one is going to give them a bunch of drama over that lol
I can tell you from working retail that none of the employees care about this stuff. It's not even a "Haha it's just toys, who cares" kind of thing, it's a "I only get paid 8 bucks an hour, I don't care about this, and I'm definitely not going to get into a confrontation with a customer over this, just so I can get yelled at later by my supervisor."
It's shoplifting. Maybe the folks collecting the returns at some of the Marts should take a closer look, it's just a thought. And whoever is working the toy isle should be looking at what's going on in their dept.
It's Theft plain and simple, and sucks for the person trying to find that specific figure. I found a package recently at Walmart in Greenwood Indiana. Someone had replaced the spider Carnage figure with a Walgreens exclusive Antman figure. As I didn't have the figure. I bought it. It was in great condition plus came with Spider Carnage's head, baf piece and alternate carnage hands. Just shows these idiots don't think when they do this stuff.
I've seen some pictures of people replacing current TMNT figs with vintage ones, which is dumb, b/c vintage figs are way more rare than currents. These people don't think.
