Figure Realm Comments and QuestionsWell Hello there. Found this site searching google. I love it so kudos to everyone. I want to star a project customizing action figures and have learned a lot with YouTube tutorials and with this site. Anyways. MY doubt is this:
I read on the tutorials section that in order to make a custom with metallic colors I must use a base first like chrome metallic or silver. THEN I can use the Transparent paint (any color) on it And it will have the desired color. So I went to eBay looking for the "Testors Transparent Green" But only found the airbrush paint. Can I use this and apply it with a brush ? Will it work the same ? I dont want to buy it without knowing first since I am kind of a Budget.
So please let me know what you can It will be greatly appreciated. Hope to be part of this beautiful community.
This is the paint I found on eBay

Please wait...

Here's a bottle for $7 shipped:

Here's the clear green paint on amazon for about $5: https://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Acrylic-G ... aint+clear
To make a part look like colored metal, you would paint the part solid silver (a metallic) or chrome then use a transparent/clear/translucent color on top of it. People do it all the time for iron man customs.
Pearl isn't metallic (but it can look that way). The paint bottle in that picture is for a "pearl", it's not transparent. You can paint that over anything and it will be pearl green. Here's a figure painted with Pearl White http://www.figurerealm.com/customfigure ... w&id=77165 Note how it doesn't look like metal, it looks specifically like a pearl. And yeah, you can brush that Testors Pearl paint by hand, I used the same brand, it just takes a ton of coats to get a solid color. You have to work fast too because the paint wants to dry quickly. If you're still brushing when it decides to dry you're going to get thick ugly brush strokes. I suggest you use an airbrush.
Metallic usually refers to any metallic paint. Silver/gold/bronze paint is metallic. It roughly looks like metal.
Chrome has a mirror finish.
This is Testors's clear (transparent) green:
Like Omarali said, Tamiya also makes clear colors for hand painting, but they have about the same working time as the Testors Pearl I mentioned above so you get the same hassle. Airbrush is always recommended.
